8000 vs 4000

Having looked all around at the posts whilst also checking out the specs for both devices does this thing really come down to how many bytes / tracks or ram it has?. Many moons ago in my soundtracking days I made some pretty weird stuff with one midi lead and two amiga computers joined together (yes should I be admitting this?).

Sure I have a 4000 winging its way to me at the moment but the short of it is surely if you are to study a device and learn the real inside out techniques you can make it do or sound as you wish.

Bits and bytes are all well sometimes, but it may be the case that the most simplistic solutions are the most effective.

People are different in appoach and production but most of us remain common in listening, if a beat kicks ass it kicks ass.

I own both of them as everyone knows already. Realistically, you cannot make comparisons or contrasts on their specs alone. The MV and the MPC are two different products from two different vendors. It's like trying to compare a Motif with a Triton. They are both workstations but the similarity ends there. Those synths are so different from each other that specs alone don’t mean much. The MV and MPC work differently. An MV owner must learn a new way of interacting with the instrument. Fantom-S and V-Synth owners will have already acquired useful navigational skills.

One promotional factor that can be emphasized is the MV was released a couple years after the MPC. Functional improvements over the MPC design were made as Roland addressed the concerns expressed by MPC owners. Auditioning samples may be done from any internal drive on the MV, for example. Additionally, Roland is committed to supporting the unit with timely OS updates. Among other things, version 2.0 will add VGA and mouse support.

Apologies if I seemed to over emphasize the specification aspect that was not my intention. Owning both units must be great because different tasks require different tools although some tools can be made to emulate and produce the effect of its alternate and visa versa.

I sense heated debates arising over this 8000 4000 arena. Non Pro artists such us myself with limited resources it appears will be a little biased towards a chosen product.
