It wasn't promised as a feature. The MPC4000 brochure listed "master archiving" as a feature. What AKAI meant by "master archiving" is that the user would be able to make backups on CD. Some individuals misinterpreted AKAI's feature. It is much different from "audio mastering" that Roland included with the MV-8000. AKAI delivered their promise in OS 1.40 with the MEMORY TO CD operation.
The MPC4000 design began years ago, long before anyone had the idea of burning audio to CD or adding audio mastering in such a box. It remains doubtful the company would include either of these features by changing their design. They are still trying to implement the features in the current design while eliminating bugs. When they finish doing this (hopefully in the next 2 years) the MPC4000 feature list will be completely implemented.
Given these circumstances, it is doubtful they would then begin adding new features--assuming it can be done. If anything, you should look forward to the MPC4000 successor some day. It might arrive in the form of the MPC2500.
