CURSOR RESPONSIVENESS

i have a question to all who care to answer. How responsive is the cursor on the 4000 supposed to be? because i notice that i have to press mine pretty hard to get a response.

It happens with all of them?
If you feel differences between the cursors, some feels easy (hear a click)
others is a pain..., I'm afraid that you have to change the whole jog dial with
the cursors...

That's the problem I actually have and I'm trying to know how to do it.

Are you talking used units?
Every 4k I have ever used one one that was purchased new and I have never seen any problems.

Yes, I was talking about a second hand unit. I'm sure there is no problem,
as you said, with brand new units, but I have felt the cursors/jog wheel a little
flimsy and not made to last...

I have third if not fourth hand 4k...Had to replace most of transport buttons, pads are double triggering...I dont see anything flimsy or not build to last about 4k's curson/jog wheel tho.

I have had no previous experiences about other MPCs, so I think your
experience is more valuable than mine definitely.
I suppose that all has depended on the previous owner use of my 4K (or
the "spoilt" shipping it suffered, I will never know...).
You should add to the equation, the adaptation period to its ergonomics...
(I prefer the cursors/jog dial design from YAMAHA's desks though)

At this moment I only know I have to change the cursors to bring up the
control section to specs... My RIGHT cursor don't sound "click" when
you press it (as the others do) and although it works, it is tougher to
obtain its response like it seems to happen to KIN TUT...

Does any of you know if one can replace the "thing" without much trouble?
I would prefer to solve the problem on my own without the word shipping
involved...

Had the same thing with my jog/cursor.
Simply buy some NON GREASY switch/electrical cleaner.
With the mpc OFF, spray the offending buttons wait until its all evaporated i.e. leave it for hours.
Switch it on!
sorts most unresponsive switches because they work they just collect dust crap etc.

Are WD-40 suitable for the job?... I'll write again to report about the results...

no definitely don't use wd40 its oil based and so may work briefly but in the long term u would be puting grease into your switches not good!

You want NON GREASY electrical switch cleaner, its basically alcohol it evaporates and leaves nothing behind.
Definitely not wd40 thats oil based.

I dont have that much expierience, just had few bad mpcs and rather than paying someone else to fix it I decided to do it myself.


I dont know about spraying any solvents directly on the motherboard of mpc. WD 40 is definately greasy, so dont use that. Personally I would take it apart and see what's going on inside the unit.

Air clean it, maybe it is just dirt that got underneath. Then you're in luck, but if previous user had to apply the same amount of pressure to get any response outta of it. Then chances are you might have to replace the encoder and whatever else is there that responds to the cursor movement.
