Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By Roopesh Mon Feb 16, 2004 12:43 am
and now i have some more studio cash at the moment and am thinking of also getting a MPC 4000.

but its not only coz i have the cash...but i want to explore a more indepth MPC.

In the UK i can get a brand new MPC 4000 for £1349 from DV excluding Hard Disc and CD-Rom (i have to use up some small credit anyway).

my questions are as follow (whether answered before or not, i just want Fresh answers of todays opinions).

1) Can i use the 4000 straight out the box (with no HD or CDR-RW) and with the standard 16mb ram?

2) Can i use my USB 128mb Compact Flash card reader or my 64mb USB Memory Stick (to the front of the mpc 4000) for Loading .wav drum samples, make some beats and then save the sequence, program and song data back to my USB storage?.

3) What are the 'main features' that still don't work on the MPC 4000?

4) whats the sequncer timing like?

5) any major bugs?

anything you cn throw in.

i am a serious buyer, and am about to get one very soon. i didnt expect to, but now it looks like i am. the 1000 is still very nice but i might use it for live work only.

i just need fresh advice...but don't want to start a war.

any advice welcome...but please try to answer the above questions.

i have tried the search...but like i said i want fresh info...not something archived from 2 months ago.

thankyou.

can the MPC 4000's Mixer be used to adjust levels of individual pads like i can do on my 1000 (by hitting 'Mode'> Mixer > hit the desired pad, and then level up or down).

For example...

i have drums loaded to all 16 pads of Bank A only.

then i make my 2 bar beat pattern.

then i want to mix each drum hit separetely, by leveling them, panning some of them, etc...can you do this in the mixer on the mpc 4000.

hy roopesh!

i'll try to answer some of your quests (to the best i cah!)

1. yes and no. you can drag and drop samples from a pc/mac via ak.sys in your memory! ... but where do you wanna save your things? external zip, ...is a possibility! saving on pc should be possible too (have never done that!)! but i guess workin without hd and cdrw is annyin! ... i wouldn't get one without hd!

2. usb stick! should work! even thought mine didn"t! maybe its depending on the type of usb stick your usin!

3. audition samples from hd, effect return level low!

4. great!

5. see 3! most of the smaller bugs should be solved in 1.51!

pad mixer> i think this should be included in os 1.51 (which should be out within days/weeks)

hope that helps

btw: usb stick! has anyone ever worked with usb sticks succesfully: opening files, os upload from there, saving songs to usb stick, ... ? i ve tried with my usb stick but it didn"t work, so i just wonder if the usb stick is not adequate, the mpc not supportin it or me doin somethin wrong!

alto

ps: never mind the forum / old posts: many of your current and future quests are already answered there!
