Read on the akai pro site:A Digital I/O (AES/EBU/SPDIF) with wordclock is also available as an option. Is that true??????

I never have seen that. I have the 4k Studio D which is the digital studio version and the stereo digital I/O is SP/DIF in/out with wordclock in for house sync.

Please read the following link for more of an explanation. I have the digital board and an aes/ebu input in my soundcard therefore I needed to convert spdif coaxial to aes/ebu. The link above explains the pro and consumer spec amongst many other things to do with these formats. I do all coversion of digital formats with the following piece of kit.

i don't know much but AES is a professional Audio standard,Spdif is just a format from Sony and Philips, which is not the pro reference.....
