Maybe im not that sharp, but If you can get code for other machines, why not the 4000? What's the consensus?

You made a whole new thread for this too?

Repeat:
If you work at Microsoft, you don't have access to the source of every MS program ever written. He said himself it will not be done.

Me either thats why i asked. So your saying they "gave" JJ access codes to their newer lines but not the legacy stuff (4000). So microsoft wrote the OS and he works for microsoft and thats how he's able to do what he does? Just curious.

The JJ OS developer is a former AKAI employee that worked on the the 1K and the 2500. So the JJ group had access to the OS code for those 2 units, but not any other units.

Cool thanks for the clarification adrian and cool avatar by the way. Right on then, that makes since. Call me crazy or even naive, but couldn't we (collectively) organize and at least try and persuade Akai or somebody who worked the OS to help us on this issue. Any Ideas? Pay Akai or something? Am I off in left field on this. Smoove? Feline? Anybody optimistic about this?

Knock yourself out this isn`t the first time and you aren`t the first one with the idea. Contact Renich on the open source coding.

On the other hand there are no JJs on this board so good luck.

I contacted Akai a while back about this very thing. At the time, I was working as a computer science professor at a pretty good university, and I have lots of experience with software development, so I was in a good position to pitch the idea to them, I think. They declined. It's unfortunate in my opinion, because I don't see that there is a future for them in the MPC4000, but throwing the platform open to software developers might well breathe a bunch of life into it.
