New MPC4000 owner...and stuck....please read.

Hows it going everyone?

I recently purchased an MPC4000 (this is my first MPC also...so im a bit in over my head)

I wanted to know is there any way to audition a sound live while playing a sequence back? Meaning If I have made a sequence on the MPC and I want to change the kick drum I used in the sequence, is there a way to audition other kick drums or do I have to load each kick drum into the original kick drums pad to make it work???

I know this is probably a real newbie question but i am seriously stuck...

you gotta load your sample in order to play it while the sequence is going. Study that manual and print out the reference manual, its good stuff.

You can audition sounds with the "Audition" button, but the Sequencer
has to be stopped.

Am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculous? I mean is there any way around this? I guess the question is how do most people here get their drums to match up with their tracks without being able to audition sounds during sequence playback?

Akai is the one that ignored the request for over the last 3 years. They're really the people you need to bring it up with. We requested, they ignored.

I was just trying to provide what is currently available in the product.

I generally listen to my track while in the "Load" page and then hit stop and hit the Audition button. Your other option is to use the 512M of RAM and load in your Drum Kits into
memory. Then just use a spare track to try out your different drum kits/sounds

That's all that we have right now. I believe the competition (MV series) and all other MPC's also suffer from this limitation.

I feel you....

Load a bunch of drum samples and while the sequence is playing you can change the sample assigned to the pad you have already sequenced. Works for me.

Is it true that on the 4000, you can change the sound of a note while the sequence plays? Kinda like on that ESX1.

Congrats on your new 4000 adventure. Like the other guys said you have to load the sounds up. With Reason or most other programs I do it all of the time. I use reason for some of my drum sounds . I can switch my drum sounds while the sequence is playing. I just click my mouse and audition all of the drums sounds that I want. I can't switch the drums on the fly with my Triton but I can do it with every other sound in the Triton. If you can some kind of way purchase Reason ,use some samples you can do just about anything with that machine.

And I guess you're speaking of using ak.sys right? I haven't done this yet, but I want to use kontakt 3's data base as an external option to load samples.

No ,I'm speaking of just using the software presets in whatever program that you might have. Reason,Ableton Live,BDF drums or whatever.You can load you samples into Kontact or any other software sampler that you might have and try it. I'm sure if it works for Reason than it should work for Kontact with any form of samples.
