Z8 + MPD 32 = MPC4000 ?

Hey guys

I remembered people saying that the 4k is really an MPC version of Z8. So if I get an MPD to go with a Z8, does that mean that I can pretty much get all the functions of the 4K? Anything I should be looking out for?

No, its a Z8 with a MIDI controller. Sample engine features are identical in both.

If u add a DAW to it, it would be better than a 4k in theory. If you have a strong computer, Emulator X, MPD32, decent sound card, and a DAW would be killer.

Yeah I did skim through the manuals, but the z8's looks pretty simple and straightforward yet I don't see how MPD32 can make the z8 become a 4k, that's why I posted.

The main thing I'm looking for is 'workflow'. But right now it does look like the combination is still "a z8 plus a midi controller', particularly because I'm mainly going to use it as a phrase sample to help writing. Plus, the tiny screen on z8 is probably going to make things more difficult.

Z8 got no sequencer dude, you can use a soft seq but u will miss that famous akai swing...
I think that 4k´s pads are better than mpd32 too but i´m not sure.

4k=Sampler,Sequencer,and Controller pads and knobs.

Get some kind of sequencer in your setup and you are good to go. You can use Aksys with your Z8 supposing too to edit your samples with a sample editor like Peak, Audicity, or Sound Forge. But you really need a good sequencer first.
