New to this

Alright I need some serious help. I'm an emcee who is sick of getting garbage beats by garbage no name producers for my demo so I went out and bought an MPC 4000 to make my own. Heres the problem I have never made a beat in my life I have only wrecked mics so I have no idea how to start out making a beat (bass, drums, etc.) I need some serious answers from yall since its obvious that yall have been making beats for some time now. What do I start with to make a beat? Where do I go from there? What do I use for basslines? If someone could just list the steps and how to go about using them I would be forever in debt to you. One love hip hop people.

First I come up wit a tight melody! Then after u have a nice melody then u build your track off that! Addin hihats, kick, snare or a clap, bassline, and etc. So producers work different wayz some do the drums first then come up wit a melody! U will have to figure out what works for u! The 4k is a beast mos def u should be able to accomplish alot fo sho.

1. good source material
2. set tempo
3.get an idea off of the metronome
4.lace something-foundation(whether it be keys/bass/drums)
5.cross that with material that will compliment that
6. if that's not working for you switch your quantizing
7.play with something that sounds good over your beat before you lay it down
8.sequence some variations
9.enter song mode

get that????

1.study your manual of course if you dont have one go to akia.com
its a very good idea to get one.
treat this like a final exam.
learn the terms in the manual if you know the meaning of the words this really hellps your game
2 if you have a cdrom kool if not thats a must also a zip drive
get a good sample cd right on this site.
once you get over that hump
learn how to load and save also learn how to organize your samples
then get a understanding about creating progarams then assinging samples.
learn all this first then progress.

In school we would beat out the rhythm on the tables and desks while rhyming. Its the same thing just make up the drum pattern in the sequencer Main screen. Sample your favorite kick ,snare, hi-hat, and etc and lay out on the pads. If you are sampling a phrases from records, cds, mp3 or off a keyboard chop everything up into individual notes. While your drums and percussions are playing in a pattern play your basseline with the kick and next make a melody with the other lighter notes. Downloand the Roger Linn MPC manual if need be to make it easier to understand the functions and these technical terms you will have learn..


The MPC is an intrusment it will play what you want it to play.!!!!!!!!!!!
