Most likely the static noise is being caused a loose solder joint or a dirty contact. If you are comfortable opening up the 4K, it will be an easy fix.

The headphone jack and volume knob are on one small board. Spray the volume knob contacts with a contact cleaner, then turn the knob to work the spray in.

If, that does not fix the problem take a good look at all the solder joints on the headphone jack/vol. board. Unscrew the board and look at the bottom of it, if necessary. Should you find a loose joint, solder it back together.

You can find contact cleaners at your local Radio Shack, Fry's and other places.

Thanks for responding more I tried what you suggested and it still doing the same and also it is doing the same static noise from the main outs as well this mpc is an ebay buy and I guess you get what you pay for huh, I've only had a week but know it's gonna be a peice of cake to learn like the other mpcs I own anyway one thing I know is the ram is not useable they don't match and when on the screen to check the memory it say 400mb with both and 272mb with one stick so my question is would a backup of hd to dvd reformat the drive and set all back to factory you think that wouuld work?
