all very true. that's how we operate in the digital age. that said i think he left out some valuable real world advice (outside of the internet) about rubbing elbows with people, working hard to get gigs, etc. but the fact remains he's correct; exposure is key.

Yes good article, and like starcrusher said, he left out the street team and pounding the pavement part. In my opinion, getting out and doing open mics, opening for more established regional bands is a better way to get known than just: Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Youtube and www.yourbandhere.com and done.

New artists are a dime a dozen on the internet, but all of them are not out in the streets building rapport with people. Get established in your region, as well as what Mr Nine Inch Nails said, and you'll be in that much better shape to make it.

Very good info here. This goes hand in hand with the ebook that is in a thread down below. The one thing I will say, from our experience is this shit is hard. We are doing some of the things mentioned in this article, particularly giving the album away, and we are having a hard tome getting pele to listen. We aren't the only ones either. Some cats we know who grind WAY harder than we do (no kids, no mortgage, etc) are having a hard time getting listened to. I don't know if it is because there is a rush of local, or underground music they are exposed to, but this shot ain't easy.

Anyways, good read. Very informational. Thanks for posting this.
