question about selling beats.

lets say i have a sampled beat from a old well known artist.i have the beat awaiting for sale.

then someone wants to buy the beat i try to sell the beat without clearing it from the publisher and/or artist (the artist im trying to sell it to knows too).can i do that?or do i have to clear?

OR are you only suppose to sell it to only artists that are on Independent and/or Major Labels.

AND after i sell it,i dont want to have anything else to do with that beat.

is that illegal?

Just draw up a contract stating you are selling a sample-based beat and it is the responsibility of the artist actually using the beat to clear the samples. This way you don't have to spend money clearing the samples, but if the tracks becomes really hot and is on the billboards etc, you'll probably be given up royalities. Also, when drawing up the contract, ask for producer's credit in the event the track gets ATTENTION.

Just draw up 2 contracts with a section for the buyer, seller AND notary public to sign. Send them to the buyer via certified mail. Have the buyer sign both and send them back via certified mail. When you receive the signed contracts, make sure the buyer signed on the buyer signature line, bring it to a notary public and have both notarized. You will sign the contract in front of the notary. Send a signed, notorized contract to the buyer along with the Track...after payment is received.

Just my recommendation. It should take a couple of days.
