Can you basically have the same copyright protection as a composed work if you were to copyright your sampled based work, minus the sample. Just use your drum track, bass, and any other royalty free samples and copyright them? I always wondered and can't see why not. Anyone know? It seems like it still shows your work beyond doubt. If you can't sue someone for using your instrumental, you could sue for them using a good part of your work. Am i wrong here?

Sounds like that will come back to bite you in the ass later if you ever do try to sue. Like if it's mostly an original beat and the hook has vocal chops or you just have light sample drops that aren't the main beat you might get away with it,but if the main beat is sample based your gonna have a hard time getting that to stick.
