Does anyone actually make a living off dis shyt?????????????

Man, It would be great if I could just wake up and go to the studio, bang out a few tracks then go home and kick my feet up for the rest of the day.

Anyone out thier live like this yet? Must be nice. I know a couple of dudes who are full time producers. I cant wait till Im nice enough to do that shyt. Im realy tired of my job on the real. Everyday I'm like "This close" to to saying Hey Fuk all yall Im out...

yeah i feel the same. A lot of times work is too depressing and i don't even wanna make music for a while. That is what keeps me from stepping my shit up. If I could have a secure music career, I'm done working -first ballbreaker gets a f#cking face breaker.

edit: and I'll have a micro tape recorder- and get a snare sample out of it.

Oh yeah,,,,it's a blast alright.....Yesterday for example:
8:00 AM - Clean up soundstage, drink coffee, create bill for the prior day's client.
9:00 Bring up mix for today's first session
9:20 Help unload drums in the rain.
9:30 - 10:30 Set up mics for drums, sound checks, move mics countless times...more sound checks
10:30 - 1:30 - Record drummer having a bad day....1 song - a gazillion passes. This is supposed to be fun?
1:30 -1:45 Load drums in the rain....coil mic cables, clean up soundstage.
1:45 - 2:00 Save data, eat, smoke, rest....
2:00 - 5:00 Writing session with ad agency on the MPC....30 seconds of the same thing about 100 times....
5:00 - 6:00 Food....Rest....
6:00 - 7:00 load in more drums (more rain), set up mics, run sound checks, meet new musicians, find preamp for bass player, discuss project, get drinks for everyone. Finally start session.
7:00 - 10:00 - Record music with session players for a personal project. This is the best part of the day.
10:00 - 10:30 Make practice CD's for players and assign next weeks work.
10:30 - 11:30 Clean up mess made while jamming....sit and work for a bit on commercial project that has a looming deadline. Dread tomorrows morning mastering session....
11:30 Stagger off to bed promising myself that I'll wake up early enough to take care of pressing paperwork etc.....



Yeah man.....being full time musician / producer / engineer is sure fun.....

yeah i guesse too much of anything is bad, but at least it is a little interesting and you can be your own boss. My day is basically the same xcept less freedom, more @ssholes and more depressing. I would actually like your job. well, atleast more than mine.

But what I meant is that I would like to live like Alchemist. Just get up, make a beat, smoke weed and call it a day. Thats what his life seems like at least ,from the video.

Sometimes I feel like one too...But I make a whole bunch more and thats the name of the game....

I suppose the point is that you can make a living at it but you gotta work you ass off unless you're really really lucky. There have been other days that I spent the day calling ad agencys looking for work or posting ads on bulletin boards and in local papers. Or mailing out 100 DVD's then starting a phone campagne to follow up. And don't forget the countless hours spent behind the board soldering patch bays or hunting down a faulty cable, stringing guitars or even cleaning gear.....Only about 15% of my time is actually spent creating music or playing instruments....

The flip side is in the past 10 years, I turn down work every week because I'm just too busy; I spend at least a month in the carribean every year and another month snow skiing in Canada and If I want to take the day off I can and just work all night to make it up. (mostly)

I remember when I though if I were a producer then all i sould have to do is go bang out a couple of hot ones on the mp and just rest all day. I dont think threre is anyone that really does that, do they? I mean even the ones that have "made" it had to spend mad hours doin "roadie" work ya know. I got a few clients coming through, I am making enough just to pay the rent on the studio. Im not trippin though, I mean its like Murs said "It aint work if its love" and that is how I feel about it. If I never make it big, if I just stay a local head, but the local kids is feeling my music, then I am cool with that. I never planned on being famous or rich anyways. Respected is somehting that I do have and want to keep feel me.

Well, Alchemist was raised in Beverly Hills and didn't have to worry about paying his bills. Lots of rich kids lay around all day smokin' trees.

Also that video was made while he was at NYU. His only responsibilities were school, weed, and beats!

sometimes I'm making enough to where I can pay rent and eat well just for making tracks but there's some months where beats don't sell and you gota do what you can to make that rent. If you don't buy a lot of shit it's possible and really easy.

If you are locked in a box with a thousand keys, you have no choice but to get yourself out. It may take time, wrong key after wrong key, but you will get yourself out. Think about that. I havent made the plunge yet, but in due time. Im just trying to plan a little so that I have fewer keys to have to sift through.
