I have shopped it to a couple of local radio stations and Record Labels, but I was wondering if any of you have any advice for an aspiring emcee/producer/ghostwriter?

Thanks

just throwing it in the trash can might be kinda risky....someone might find it there

For starters, don't waste your time sending your music to Radio Stations. Most are on Payola and will not even take the time to listen. 2nd, if you are sending to Record Labels make sure they accept unsolicated demos. No of the big record labels will accept demos due to copywrite laws and 9 times out of 10 your demo is throw in the trash.

Your best bet is to find either a manager or entertainment lawyer that is already in the business. Compile 10 of your best beats on CD, make a few copies, give 1 to your manager and 1 to your lawyer.

I am going to give you the best advice right now, advice that a lot of wanna be producers miss: Find local rappers, singers, etc. and give them free beats!!! Create a buzz, the more people getting down over your beats the better chance you have at getting your stuff heard. A lot of cats have it twisted in that they post their beats on Soundclick (most have been only making beats for a year) and putting $100 price tags on them. Others keep coming out with run of the mill remixes of Jay-Zs black album. None of that is going to get you signed, just ask 9th Wonder or Just Blaze.

Now we come to the pay off since I am a real nice guy I will give this info to help anyone here who needs the info. Indy labels are your best route as most accept demos and it is the best way to get your feet wet. But, before you sell a beat get a f*cking lawyer and know your contract!

-- best advice right here. around here those peeps with the 100$ songs on soundclick just get their songs stolen, for battle raps and instrumental ideas/loops etc.

the thing you really need to do is get some real HUMAN contacts, you need hot underground rappers (you be the judge of whos hot) to be spitting over your beats that KNOW YOU.

-also id suggest selling your beats at a really ridiculously low price but at a price nontheless.. people wont respect you near as much if your just dishing out for free + people tend to rap better over a beat they paid for

you need to get your hands dirty in the buisiness, im just about to start with the whole beatmaking process and pretty much know it through allot of my friends whove been beatmaking for time as well as my own experiance with writing... get in there, get some contacts and NETWORK--- cant stress that enough... NETWORK

once youve got your friends, ur groups, ur contacts thats when the fun starts- right now everything you should be doing (buisiness wise) should be geared towards that (dont worry about "wasting" good beats)
