Do You Get Discouraged When You Hear A Sample....

that you've already used or going to use on a track? For instance, and this is the first time it's happened to me.. but I have this nice sample I found (but I guess too late) flipped it, and went to this artists myspace page and it comes on. I look at my mpc, thinking it turned on or something but someone else used it already. Has that happened to any of you cats on here? I know it's happened plenty of times in hip hop, but I was wondering if you guys get discouraged or just your thought process after hearing someone else use it. In my opinion, mine is better but that's my opinion of course. But if I felt different, I'd go extra hard making that track extra special, what's your take?

I've definitly had that happen a few times. that fat joe single (the one that came right before lean back, forgot the name, it was a Cool and Dre beat) I flipped that like a good six months before i heard the track. I was like naaawww. It was a cuddy azz sample from the middle of a Vanilla Fudge record. N E way, thats why you have to freek the sample. You cant just loop that **** cause somebody else is gonna find it too. You have to make it your own. People will find the same samples but nobody will flip it like you will. Thats my take.

mannnn i made like a dozen diplomats beats.. i've made "never gonna stop me" from the latest terrorsquad album... made some kanye records... I get pissed at first when I hear a song with a beat with the same sample, that I made like two years ago ...but it just happens.. it gives me a good feeling though that those artist picked practicialy the same beat i've made... seems like when it comes to sampling I am doing ok.

i had that beat made, mixed and on my groups mixtape a good six months before ja even used that

and all he did was loop it, i used the loop, and some nice cuts for the hook

poor quality vocals tho.............we recorded it on my old mic and setup which was shit

i looped that shit up on fruity by the way

and the cuts were done with a mouse............no midi or mpc or anything jus a mouse................and the ball kept gettin stuck

Personally I sample shit ppl dont know or wouldnt even pic up!...Dats how u get placements...i eint 2 big on samplen played out saples like james brown and all but I heard dis bob marley sample and was like m gonna flip dat and guess wat i go 2 the tv and window shopper debuts lol.

theres nuffin better than taking a well known sample and flipping it and making it sound brand new

but then theres also nuffin better than taking some shit no ones ever heard before and flipping that so ya got some unheard fresh beat

but i dont really go looking for samples.........i let that find me...........like if i hear soemthing on my iPod i'd like to sample, i'll mark it by 5 stars and then get taht shit later............i'm lucky tho coz my entire music collection is on my iPod

except a few vinyls that i aint recorded yet

sometimes tho, like very rarely i'll need certain something for my beat, and i have to start looking, in my head i might need say some piano............but after looking i end up finding horns or watever..........so the sample still finds me if ya catch my drift

I didn't think I would. I had this song from a 60s movie I kept wanting to flip, but couldn't figure it out. Anyway, I heard this person flip it and did a good job. At first I was mad, but then I thought, **** it, I'll flip it a different way & it turned out OK.

I think we all have been through that at least a few times in our days. From majors to minors this has happen. Whatever sample it is and where every you get it from just do the best you can with it to your knowledge and that's all you can do. Even if you try to keep it conseal there's always someone who have heard it before or someone have possibly make a beat with it already. Just remember don't stop till you get enough! That's what a Major said and it work for him it can work for you. Hope that make sense.

the first one happened a few years ago, i forgot who and what song it was from.

the second one crushed my heart though. the new ghost lp fishscale, he had a track on there he 'produced' himself sampled from the stylistics' youre a big girl now record. he did the same shiet he did last album where was just spittin over the ORIGINAL SONG. no chops, breaks, nothin. im aint hatin on him though, he's one of my fav emcees ever.

i put an old school southern kick snare pattern to a 2 sec. loop of it. not that luke 2 live crew booty bounce stuff. basically somethin like a ugk lp from the early/mid nineties. it was damn near one of my first beats and always imagined givin it to either bun b or dtp. sounded nice.

even worse than aforementioned, i forgot to pull it off my hard drive before i FORMATTED it. i cant even find the hat and kick i used for the shiet. almost get depressed thinkin bout it...

Man that shit has happened a lot to me, but one just recently. I was going through some samples I had already cut and put into my comuter, so I found one and decided to use it. I loaded it up on my 2K, messed around with it, and then left out to a video shoot for this local rapper named Pikahsso. Now I refuse to listen to the radio (because it's staright garbage), but I guess I shoulda kept a closer ear to the industry, becuase ironically when I got to the shoot, someone was playing the song I had just sampled! I later found out that the song was "Go Crazy" by Young Jeezy.

I was pissed, but whenever that happens to me man, I just flip that shit and make it hotter. Half the time that type of thing happens to me the song sucks, so just ket your creativity go and make it hotter.

i got pissed the first time i heard a sample i used iin a track on the radio playin,but now i know shit like dat will happen when u first start sampling.now i play keys and stay Wayyyyyy ahead of the game.I made some shit to remove vocals off of any records or cds.I wont be pissed again.trust

It would not matter to me I'll just make a song that is better than the other one that used the same sample.

i really dont have any problems when two beats use the same sample. Just Blaze used that sample on P.S.A for Jay-Z that black moon had used on "stay real" 7 years before but did that make P.S.A. any less hot of a track. Not for me. As long as u dont completely copy the person who used it prior and the vocals are fresh as hell. Then go on right ahead is what i think.
