one thing to consider! what type of show are you doing? if its just some stack doe type set then everybody is right, keep movin, BUT if you can maybe do it for a cause where you donate a percentage of the proceeds you may be able to get the big acts out for lil or nothing! find out who is into what ie. breast cancer, aids awareness, black education. get my drift! now the percentage i speak of can be anywhere from 1% to 100%, just something for you to chew on!

I personally have never played "Concert Promoter" but have been involved in the processes may times! First, you do want to start small. If you really want to make bread, book an artist with spins on the radio for at least 3 nights. Go to neighboring cities and check for available venues. Find a good soundguy who will travel to the other cities. Get radio commercials done and print up TONS of postcards. For example... I live in a city of 250,000. There are 2 cites a bit smaller about 150 miles away, one north, the other south of here. Let's say I wanted to book Mike Jones. He would probably do a show for 12,000. But, he would probably do 3 for 25,000. So you book him for 3 shows, provide all accomodations, get the local artists to pass out flyers and myspace the hell out of the flyers. Get the local acts to open the shows, get the local DJ to host... Do it in all 3 cities and instead of profiting 12 G's... you stand to profit 35! Then you do it again with the smaller artists and then slowly move up! Before you know it, you could book Jay Z for 1 huge show and make a little cash!
