Music placement companies

Hey Guys for anyone really interested to make money out of that kind of placement companies I would recomend to read a book called Making Music Making money the author is erick beall.

And is simple as this guy say if you want to be succes with a music publishing (that is a more formal name to placement company) then become your own music publishing company.

I should say is not easy but this book really covers all the aspects very well, there is more behind that you think about this bussines so is better to have the right info before deal with this kind of companies

im sure you can start your own bussines with some effort but in the end if you decide not to at least this book will give you a very nice inside view about how this companies work so you can make a better decision when dealing with one good luck.

Just today, I heard of a guy I went to school with getting his music placed on the Oprah show with them....talk about mail box money.

i dont know what you mean with taxi, mm yeah basicly the idea is that you own your copyright of your track so you can issue a license to whatever media that needs music on it of course they need to pay you to use your music on their programs or whatever you agree to license your music

I mean you can put your music into all kind of stuff tv advertisements, movies, whatever you name it.

if they need music you can place it there and grant a license for them.

is not easy to start such company but i think is a good option for people interested to have some income from their tracks. good luck.

They do charge, but it seems that if your material is good enough to get placement, it's worth the risk. They've got a pretty wide customer base from what I understand. Just don't pay any attention to the long haired bald guy in the sleeveless t-shirt on the site.

I dont know Particulary I dont like the fact that you have to pay when you make a deal, in a publishing company is more about that they will get a percentage of the mecanical rights of your track or a sync right so they have to place your song somewhere so they can make money if you have to pay is like we dont promise anything also they are making money rightaway so probably they dont care much about you because they are earning anyway and then focus on the more established artist they have.

another important fact is to be sure for how long they have the rights to exploit your songs because if you granted a one o more years licence for them and if they dont care about your material then you are stuck 1 or 2 years with them and wont be able to place your track somewhere else since you signed a 1 or 2 years contract is better to have a clause where you specify that if they doesnt place your music within few months the contract is over so you can try somewhere else,

to be honest i didnt really check the whole site i dont have much time sorry man but just use this basic tips and make sence yourself about how serious they are but someone that ask money to giveyou money looks tricky to me.

but yeah they looks like a publishing company that is what i was talking about in first place .

It just depends on how good your material is and how serious you are about making it in that part of the industry. It may suck to have to pay them, and sound like a scam but they ARE providing a service...they have contacts with people who don't get paid if they don't place quality music. They are a middle man, but a good one to have if you don't have the contacts yourself. Just my .02.

Some of the companies especially them ore expensive one are legit. What they are not going to tell you is that:

1. If your stuff is trash, they take your money and you c an join and pay anyway.
2. They are insanely, read insanely competitive and many people in the biz that already have tons of credits still use them as-well.

Competition can be a good thing though ^^^ you don't want it to be SO crazy you don't have a chance, but it can be good for your career.

anybody on here had any placements via musicplacements.com or taxi.com, or anything like that?

I joined that music placements sites about 2 weeks ago. I was kind of skeptical like anyone would be about posting their tracks on someone else's page. But I thought...... What the hell, you gotta start somewhere right. So I sent them 3 tracks like they asked, and was approved for membership 2 days later. They said only about 20% of applicants that send their tracks in get accepted, so I was like, " cool, I'm apart of that 20% bracket." Well I paid the $25 monthly fee to have the account activated after approval. I got my page, uploaded pictures, uploaded my tracks, everything was good. Then all of a sudden I got this message that said, " Account membership is still waiting approval. " Now I thought to myself, how the hell am I getting this message if 1, my account has already been approved, and 2, I already paid the fee to have my account activated. This raised many red flags, because you get that message when you try to log in as a member and haven't
been approved yet, which makes perfect sense. So I contacted the admin dept, no response. So I tried a second time, still no response. I uploaded close to 25 tracks on that site. Now my music is copyrighted, so I don't really have anything to worry about as far as my music being used without my consent, even though a copyright won't prevent someone from doing so if they choose, they don't know your music is copy written, therefore they feel they can do as they please. But court issues come into play when things like they happen, copyright infringement, and the list goes on, so most people would like to stay away from that if possible. I'm still waiting to hear back from them. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens. But for right now, its too early to say if they are legit or not, they could be experiencing tech difficulties for all I know. But i'll keep you posted.
