I have sold beats for as little as 100 bucks and as much as 1500 a pop (5000 for a 3pack with recording, mixing and a data disc to get mastered)
It all depends on who is shopping for em. And how you sell to them.
Think of it like a store.. first you have to have actual good product.
Then make sure to never devalue it.
Think of it like a store. But just keep in mind anyone can shop your store.. a person with money to burn or someone without. Someone that wants to buy, but just window shops, or someone READY to drop good paper.
take what you can get but again , dont devalue yourself.
as said in the beginning of this thread, it helps to have some kind of reputation, following, or something to validate you. Sometimes the music alone can do that, but sometimes it Aint enough.
The way I sold the beats for 1500 was.. a friend hooked me up with ppl he met at a bar that were producing an RnB singer looking for tracks.. instead of just sending em a cd, they wanted to meet, SO I said okay and I will bring a bunch of tracks and we will have a listening party. The artist sat in, and I played at least 30 to 40 tracks.. some for 20 seconds, some 2-3 times if he started moving.. I would give em an artistic direction that I thought each track could go in, and just searched for them to vibe with me.. I knew my material, So I played specific tracks and rode the vibe once I found it with em.
THEN WE TALKED MONEY. They wanted to know how much I charged.
I said it depends.. what is your budget.. and they said no more than 2 a track(i thought they meant 200 at first and smiled like huh?, but then they said they didnt wanna spend more than 6000-7000 with recording to produce the guy and I knew they wanted 3 cuts)
I almost devalued myself had I opened my mouth and said.. "200? thats a lil low"
So I said how bout a three track package deal for 5000 with recording, mixing, data discs.
and they said they would sit on it and call me back. In the end they said yes and I got paid 5000.
Gave 500 to the dude who's studio I used and pocketed 4500 bucks!
(I was mad excited to make that compared to my norm which was 500 a track, and I could have gotten more.
While I may have devalued myself a little, I didn't wanna risk losing the deal, plus I learned from it)
