i think the best route to go may be to just put the artists on for free and kind of force them into a joint venture with you. (i.e. you put them on <---> they put you on).
by networking this way, you may end up making more $ in the long run, or hooking up with a dope artist you may not have encountered otherwise.
as far as selling your beats for 10-150, i disagree. I think it's smarter to just give it to an artist that's doing a lot of shows, rather than give it away to some sucker emcee for 10 or even 150. if someone's doing shows, they're more likely to push their music / your beat.
Secure a few deals like that and you're going to fast track yourself to a lot more exposure at a much faster rate. Additionally, if you have a dope emcee on your track...you will instantly gain some cred. Sooner than later, you'll get your money. Just don't be too hasty.
Remember, this is your art, man. Do you really want someone to insult you with 10 for something you spent so much time on. People who insult you with offers like that should either 1) be given the beat, or 2) kicked to the curb.
