Selling beats to the big dawgs?

How does an unknown go about selling beats to big rappers? It's difficult to contact them in the first place, pointless using myspace etc. And there is no point in splashing beats across the net hoping they will pick it up because by that time it's already been heard and is no longer fresh to the people that have heard it.

I'm not trying to sell my beats, but just wondering how you'd go about contacting them offering them beats. Of course the beat has to be DOOOOOPE to get their attention. I know that.

I've heard so many wack beats though that big names are spitting on. There are tons of unsigned hype that could piss over them beats.

Connections
Time (years) and a lot of effort (ass licking, doing shit for free) to climb the ladder.

Because u make beats doesn't mean u can just step to a well known rapper and say: 'rap on this'.

If u'r asking this type of questions I think ur far away from dealing with this kind of business.

Y Dont you just spit on your own tracks and make it hot... and get a little of exposure that way... even if you suck at lyrical fire... theres always someone out there that says or wants to improve it....

Get your own buzz goin. Get acouple of friends to rhyme on your joints. If an A&R hears it, they may suggest a well known rapper to spit on your joints instead of your friends. But like they stated above, it's timing and luck.

best relationships are ALWAYS made with people face to face, especially if they're the sort of people who get approached by upcoming people all the time online etc. if you're face to face with them, they take you seriously

Make a name for yourself. Most commercially successful artists would buy beats from just anyone..no matter how dope your beats are. Names help to sell albums. I don't rap, but if I had the Neptunes on a beat, more people would buy it.
I asked Talib Qwali "how can a local producer get their beats to you?" His response was, "anyone can make a beat, but what have they done?" If Talib takes a beat from you, he's helping you, and most producers are looking to get paid. How can we expect money when they (more known artists) are about to skyrocket your career? If you don't want to give your beats away, then you have to make noise in your area so THEY come to YOU. Think about it, these guys are getting cd's handed to them all day everyday..most are probably wack, but I'm sure they stumble across a nice beat every once in a while. Why should they rap over your beat, when they already have beats from known producers that they have established friendships with. Even if your beat his hotter than Hi-Teks, Talib is not about to toss his friends beat away to pay an unknown dude.
Also, keep in mind, that even some of the worst rappers/producers that you can think of, have been putting in time. Some have been trying hard for 10+ years! Even though some kats get in early, this is all just luck, being in the right place at the right time, or knowing the right people. For the less unfortunate, your gonna have to pay dues like everyone else. There's not a lot of shortcuts in this game.
