selling beats online

ok ive been getting a lot of offers from people willing to buy my beats from myspace. how would you price them and how would you go about having a legitimate trade of funds and beats? All my beats contain samples that are not cleared so is it a good idea to sell them? Im in need of some fast cash so what do yall think? thanks!

This is the document i have artists who want to buy my stuff read, its from soundclick.com but is pretty much a standard legal agreement between producer and artist.

have them sign a contract acknowledging you are hired as a private contractor to create a piece of music and that you not them own the work.

as far as prices it depends on u and your music
I charge anywhere from 20-200 dollars to lease and up to and sometimes over $1000.00 for exclusive.
It comes down to whatever you negotiate with the artist.

If I'm not mistaken (I'm sure someone will correct me) but the person who purchased the beats from you will have to pay to clear the sample. As long as you are legit and and upfront with telling them who you sampled it from.

it can go either way, it depends how the producer and artist negotiate the deal, but personally once I sell the beat I leave it up to the artist to get clearance for the sample. The way I word my contracts is that im hired as a private contractor to produce a track that may contain samples in which case it is the artists responsibility to have clearance of the sample to release their work commercially and I am not liable for any legal matters that may arise.

The best thing to do is to completely clar yourself from any legal issue that may come up, but even with that said its still possible to recieve SOME, backlash.

good lookin. i needed that info. ive been thinkin about the lease thing for the last few days. ive always thought that rappers would be against using a beat thats out there but after talkin to a few dudes that rap and actually lease beats i guess its not that big of a deal. is this a document thats exclusive to soundclick or is these standard terms for leasing/exclusive rights?

Yeah most rappers dont care especially since they can save themselves hundreds of dollars by leasing beats, but that agreement is soundclicks agreement for the producer or artist who wants to sell their music to another artist (through soundclick) but because its so simple to understand and to the point I use the same one with people I work with and who want to by mystuff outside of soundclick as well. I'll just make any changes to the agreement that need to be made as I see fit as far as what I negotiate with the other artist. But for the most part it is a standard legal agreement.
