i love workin with creative people. artists u know. writers, good producers. i'm into getting things done. best feeling in the world besides shorty's as$.

but MAN I'M TELLING YOU. i am sick to DEATH of the f*cking idiots in this game. music industry is full of them.

love how you approach this topic. that's why i wrote in my guide to selling beats that there's a pecking order in this shit for a reason.

if for nothing else it separates the snakes from the true honest cats, and grounds well-meaning but ambitious newbies into the realization that success is not going to come overnight.

Every business has it's snakes, anytime money is spent, made, lost, music making is fun,,, music "business" is... business same bs as any coporate controlled entity with investers/ shareholders to answer to

You're definitely right man. That's how the game is. It's flooded with people like that. The more you build up your own team of people you can trust and make sure the ball is always in your court, the less you have to deal with so many clowns out there!

yea every industry has its snakes and untrustworty ppl. just the entertainment buis has the most lol

the music business is full of snakes. for example, as an MC once you start messing with these A&R scum they make you try and sell your soul for a quick dollar. negotiate on your terms. if they're showing interest in you, then someone else will too, so forget the money and think about what is best in the long run otherwise the label will rape you for every penny. i'm in this boat at the moment so it's funky fresh for you guys to hear. they wanna know about how good you are live and if your tracks ain't hot your out the window, after that is what's important (discussing pay!), but it only gets to this stage if they truly believe they can market your stuff to children. it's all aimed at children. anyhow, being independent may not be so bad, just look at immortal technique...

just got a new engineer/studio? lay down your terms as soon as possible. first recording session let him know it's your music, your the boss. engineers can be lazy and unproductive/greedy. make sure he's doing the right job and making you sound the best you can sound. otherwise ditch the guy and move on, forget the time you investing finding the studio, it will only bring you pain!

need beats? work on an albulm with a hip-hop beat producer of your choice, because if your good enough (and are using multiple beats by multiple producers on your LP/EP) then percentages are going to be flying all over the place. people are greedy, it's the truth. split the rewards with one guy/gal more than your group members for easy mathematics. if you have, say, one or two 'original' beats on the albulm (i.e. not by the 'main' producer) make sure you pay them upfront a certain sum, and do a bit of research into them signing away the use of their music. a real hassle if you ask me.

no idiots in this industry, and that's the problem. watch that back of yours, keep your homies close.

So far I have found that music is more shady than most industries but it isn't like people say (from what I have seen). I think a lot has to do with the company you keep. For every shady person I have met, I have met more than a few good people. The shady people will be quicker to try to get you into something so it makes you feel like everyone is out to screw you. Once I found people I trusted, things became much more apparent and the people around you seem less shady, or you stay away from them if it isn't to your benifit. I may say different later, that's how I feel now.

Real shit that's how you have to be. Just do your own thing, independently, screw these labels because why would spend your money on equipment, production and everything that goes into it, just to sign over all the rights to it to them?

It makes no sense in this day and age in the music business.

There are way too many shady people who smile in your face and stab you in the back at the same time.

I'm having this same issue right now.
