The thing i tell so many young producers is you have to have a contract with anything you do when selling tracks to artist no matter how big or small, you have to be published with ascap/bmi/or seasac, and get all your tracks copyrighted, then start your own production company....when starting out, if a artist aproaches you and likes your music, setup a date where you can all meet and discuss several different things.....there are all kinds of formats that you can present to a potential buyer (.wav files, tracking or composing the beat in the studio, dumping the track from the cd into pro-tools,cubase,sonar or whatever sequencer the studio has) what the track does or doesnt do should depend on the artist.....if the artist wants the song to fade in the closing... then that is what should happen...the track doesnt have to be mixed down if you are creating the track in the studio before the recording of the vocals.....but must be somewhat mixed at the appropriate levels if you are dumping it into the sequencer from the cd....because you dont want to spend alot of time trying to turn the track up or down as a whole because its too loud or too soft under or over the lyrics and chorus. when creating and mixing a track make sure your main melody and leads are the loudest, your snare, drums, and your bass lines are in the medium level, and your counter rythyms and things like that should be at the lowest levels and at times louder...you can track the whole thing with your production equipment of choice and record your drops and changes then burn it to cd...its all about what the artist wants..whether he wants to go to the studio and track the instrumental one instrument at a time or just buy the whole beat to just rap over ...as far as contracts....

First of all you can look at this simple, basic, but legal producer for hire contract for young producers like yourself that you can use until you start dealing with more proffessional recording artist and record companies..nothing special but its binding............you will own half the copyright, and you get your money either all upfront or half before you start tracking and the other half when you finish the final mix.......your call.
