I'm with them and they have been pretty good to me I don't think that there is too much difference between bmi and ascap they both pay the same.

No not really but I don't know how the process works today I have been with them since 95 many new measures may have been put in place so that's something I'm not sure of.

I know for a fact that when applying with BMI as a publisher they charge you as oppoed to ASCAP who doesen't charge a fee at all. BMI also holds youy to a contract and ASCAP doesn't.

All you need is 1 or 2

Registered work that has been performed live at a venue and you have evidence.. Rather a video or flyer or liner notes.

Registered work that is up for sale, hence http://www.cdbaby.com

Both are good and the same, but they pay at different times.

Lastly it is customary for both label and artist/label be registered with same company....

You can always wait and register when you sign with a label (if you desire) so you have the same.. Or if you are strictly indie it doesn't matter.
