if you were to set up a music festival........

what are some of the things you would think are necessarry to have the day run smoothly?

have you ran any other events before?

if so give me a short description, I'd be happy to advise

a good committee of folks in kry places to help you do what needs to be done before and during the event, street team for promo you know flyers-word of mouth, radio promo it's key to have good repore with radio, a good bean counter(money),a nice budget and a lot of prayer.

nah i havent.


its a 6 hour long daytime music festival. promotion, im good with that. I just want to have everything covered, so i dont have all those people there and forget something.


heres what i have -

venue

food

alcohol

security

street team

people to work the gates

most of the acts

sound

determination











do i need to find out about sound limits in my town for somethin like this? its at a private spot, but there are homes close by

a 6 hr fest seems a bit large for you just bustin your cherry oragnizing an event......


I would suggest having a female with very good english skills contacting city hall to inquire abot city regulations on crowd size, liquor, noise limits, union requirements, etc.

I Djed at a rave in 2000 in Florida...everything was legal and on private grounds but it still got raided....the pigs actually made us stand outside while they looked for drugs in every single record..... and there were like 15 DJs in 3 roooms......

and there was some big name talent there too

i just smoked for the first time in awhile, so get ready for a rant d.


i know a guy that started doing his own music festival, only not hip hop it was beach music. he says merchandise is the biggest thing you need, t-shirts keychains cds etc. he says this and consessions is where you get most of your $$$ from. so i would concentrate on these most, outside of the music of course.

just as a little side story, same guy, same festival. he's been having it for like
7 years now, and he said the first 2 years he pumped like close to $45,000 (don't pass out yet d. most of this was on national acts) but he ended up making like $35,000 so he had to eat ten grand. the next year was also the same thing, he ended short again. then the third year, he discovered merchandising, and now he says he makes enough money off of it to do other things.

im not saying go all out on it, just think about renting a few of those heavy duty family reunion style barbecues, cook up some ribs (wholesale) have someone selling beer and water, and make a little cash off of the joint.

i'm assuming it's a summer event. it's all day, so you now after people have been out there for a while, they're going to have to get something to drink, and once you get that cookout smell in the air, people will be lining up all the way around the venue.

just something for you to think about.

thanx man. It is a big event no doubt, but i have many trusted people helping me out. Yes, i am running it and organizing it, but i can pass out jobs to other people you know? Im going to the town hall (yes town hall haha, small town) on saturday and finding out about it.

thanx for the info fam. My cousin is a caterer, and hes got all the food under control. The event is at a VFW, and my uncle is a member there (my cousins dad matter of fact) and the vfw will sell the drinks, so we got unlimited liqour and water and soda and sh*t. Merchandise is something i def will look into. I dont plan on making much money from this, and thats cool, i just wanna break even and have a good time with no violence for my community. Freestyle battles and sh*t. I just finalized everything with the sound guy today and thats my biggest expense. i should be cool, but i need yall to keep coming up with suggestions.


also, i need a name for this thing asap. People have been telling me to go with Bi-Polarpalooza, but haha, i dont know.

what do you mean? and why is that so funny?

With big events the sound guy is often disregarded. I was A2ing this one show and they asked us if we could put the board in the hallway and do the FOH mix from out there.

ive done shows with this soundguy before, and he sounds so good, i wouldnt do this event if i couldnt get him. Im gonna make sure hes comfortable, and has everything he needs. thanx
