Morning People,

Going to see some family in Jamaica for the first time and I want to try and sell some beats when I'm over there.

Does anyone have any idea on how beats are sold out there and how the industry works?? I've sold stuff in the UK for ages now but looking at Jamaican artists and it seems like a proper legal nightmare.

I suppose what I'm asking is..

What are the typical deals they do?
Do I lease and then shop around the different artists or what?

Cheers People.

U dont sell them, you get them voiced (Get artists to feature on the track) unless its dead specific.....

Interms of voicing, there are a few ways to go about it...Most artists, will want you to pay them to spit on it, then the tracks yours to do what you want to do....Its all about negotiation

To be honest tho, unless your selling something really different of red hot, you wont be selling anything out there. Producers on every corner out there still waiting for their break and they aint sh1t!

What you going out there to sell and to whom? I warn you, you will get swallowed alive if you dont have the connect out there

Easy Bro,

Was just going to mix a little business with pleasure and see what'll come up. The folks are for all intensive purposes are English. Lived here sicne they were kids so contacts are likely to be zip.

I thought as much. So I basically have to give them x amount of money and then I make mine back later on assuming they like the beat.

I reckon I've got something different to offer them, but you know what artists are like. They never like what you give them and always want something else.

Cheers for the response.

Actually off that as well. Does that happen for them big riidims. Do they pay all the artists to be on the riddim or do they get one big name and the rest fall in line so to speak??

Cheers again.

Depends.....Initially, u would pay say elephant man to jump on your riddim if your trying to make it blow with substance etc....If you go about it another way and your riddim starts to pick up heat etc then others will come to you as its in their best interest to get on the riddim of the moment.

9/10 you will need to pay them for their voice/bars etc then you'd put it out etc and recoup (hopefully)

Follow?

Easy Bro,

Yeah that makes sense and seems a lot easier than I thought it would be just more costly. I'm going to get on teh blower to some cousins and see if I can pull in any favours.

Cheers.
