what do you guys think about giving more than one MC the...

same beat? is this an OK thing to do? if you are just giving them away it should be OK to let a few different MCs flip it, right?

if your just handing out beat cd's and two homies want the same beat, i would let em know that other homie wants the beat too... and if they wanna battle for it or both use it its on them. If i am selling homie a beat, i would only give it to him otherwise he might not wanna do buisness anymore.
I have had like 4 cats hound me for a beat i wanted for my own, and it was a hard thing to decide. As far as i see it, its your beat, you should control who gets it...

Morally i wouldn't feel right givin the beat to 2 people, even if they got it for free. But $ and exposure is more important so **** it.

If you are giving it away, i don't see the problem. Let them know that you are doing it though. Infact, let anyone you give a beat to know it's not exclusive and other people might be on it. I don't see a problem but let people know.

but i would say the same if you wanna keep the beat, in that case... you would give permissions to use the beat.

At first I was trying to keep all my beats exclusive. Just giving out the beat once. But some MC would take a couple of beats and sit on them. So now I put an expiration date on them. Let them kids know if I dont hear anything back, that beat goes back on the rack for another MC.

Same thang I've been doin...To stay on the topic, I only hand out my beats for free for non profit use. So I wouldn't care about givin the same beat to more than one mc.

If both want it really bad, maybe you should start throwin a price on it.

Good thought or lease the beat to both for a set number of copies they can sell up to with using your beat.Then put in the contract the lease is active until like 2020 or until the rights are bought.

no beats is owned untill it is locked down. I give out beat cd's and hear cats versus on shit but if it aint locked down, it aint yo shit. Im not doin this to make friends ot to keep from hurtin peoples feelings. If I did that I would never get anywhere.

I have a homie who always wanted to rap. My relationship with him has nothing to do with music unfortunitly I think he looks at me to help him do music. Ill give him a copy of some beats and he'll write to them... like six months later and It'll be like one verse. I cant tell you how many times he gets upset when I sell them to someone else or use it myself. flowers it, u cant always cater to peoples feelings, this aint what you do to make friends. we make music to get it herd, if that isnt your concern than it's just a hobby.

it all comes down to producer/artists AGREEMENTS.

that means "contracts" - per se...

get your hands on them - you should probably be able to find a blank, fill-your-own-in on the net somewhere, if not - hit the library...

there you will note whether or not the beat is EXCLUSIVE, or NON-EXCLUSIVE, on the "rights" section...

a lot of start-up beatmakers (i should note that there is a HUGE difference between beatmaker and real producers) - sell non-exclusive beats - sometimes it's so hot that they know that if they make it available to 1,000 MC's (for example), on the net, for $50.00 a pop -

it would make more than $1,000 for the exclusive rights on just that beat.

but get agreements, and if need be -

put a time stamp on it - so they don't sit on the beats, as you mentioned...

but if you're just handing them out - then that's on a "friend" tip - so definitely let them know - you're a beatmaker - this is your bread and butter and your dreams to get out - get big - sooooo don't sit on it -

just make sure there is an understanding.

if you're selling -

then you have to tell the artist(s) that it is not exclusive, etc....

this is all of course, if you want to do it the right way, which in the END, will pay off, player...
