Working with In-House musicians

Just wondering how one goes about negotiating deals with in-house muscians.

Are they normally given points off of a track/project or upfront cash.

If points, like how many?

I waz thinking points makes eveybody feel like they are "family" and will make people more creative as opposed to paying cash and they be like, whatever where they end up playing whatever and move on to the next hustle.

I would really like to hear your opinions on this for those that work with muscians.

Alot of the time in house musicians won't work for anything but cash. If you can get them to work for points, I'd go for it. Odds are on the project won't hit big (Just fact) and that puts them working for free. If they ask for money and points, forget 'em....

I have never had one ask for points usually its just a hourly rate period. Points from cd sells dont really need to go to them because its going to be hard to recoup the few you get as it is so hold onto them unless you have to use them like big companies sell stock to get more capital.

How much is a typical hourly/track rate?

We only pay by the session so if its a 2 hour session maybe ( depending on there status and where we get them from ) 40 dollars a hour up to around 80 a hour for more experienced session players. Also take into consideration that most of them bring there own drum sets , guitars , amps , effects and such. If you need check out band players from your church or local highschool they would most likely be fine for basic stuff and would be alot cheaper. Thats saying your not working on the next outkast album or something.

Good session players rang in fee depending on thier demand. I have seen cats take home up to $800 for a single track while some players just as good are happy with $50
