A Question About This Copyright Form..

I'm filling this out and the question I have here is..

"Is this work a changed or derivative work?"

If I sample.. and even if I chop up so much you can't tell, is it considered yes? Basically, what I'm asking is.. since I sample records I'm changing someone's work right? Am I understanding this correctly?

From what I understand, yes... it is a derivative work. Since you are using the actual sound recording of another, regardless of the way you collage the samples into a new work... it is still a derivative work.



You can also contact the Copyright office and ask them. There should be some form of contact info at the official website.

I concur, make sure you have your license.
