What up fellow MP Heads?
I have a question for you all...well...for those that have an answer i guess.
I've been booking shows for a little over a year now. Putting all aspects of them together...Venue Rental, Booking, Promoting, etc... Since I'm in Seattle, and went to college with a few people who have some contacts in the indie rock scene here, I have been focusing on that genre and using my connects to arange shows. I haven't made a bunch of money and frankly I dont enjoy the music that I'm working with.
A few months ago I decided to switch gears and do this right. Hip Hop is where my heart is, so i need to keep Hip Hop where my head is, ya know. I started doin my research and found that i can actually get some great artists for very reasonable prices.
Its a lot more money than I've been 'gambling' but the payout is obviously a lot more.
Here's my problem:
I dont have ANY experience with working with booking agencies or tour Managers. I know that if I pay them, they will send the artists. But what I want to know is WHAT demands can I reasonably make without offending them? I know that I can negotiate, but what issues are reasonably negotiable?
Basically what I'm looking for is information. Someone who has been a part of larger productions. Someone who has worked as a talent buyer, Promoter, Tour Manager, Manager, etc....
