i posted something like this b4 in the wrong section and got no replies, so just wanted to try reach y'all once more...

just wondering how you dudes come up with names/aliases/monikers to play under - if anyone's got any stories on their title and how it came into being, or pointers for coming up with names, i for one would like to hear em.

I'm tryin to come up with a good name currently (got have something to stick on the posters) and not having any luck - all the good ones are taken!

how important do y'all think this shyt is?

names usually come from anywhere, your name spelled backwards, movies, tv, cartoons, what your moms call you, how you act, what you like to do, a numberof ways you can come up with an alias. me for one i chose Josey Wales simply because its a tuff movie, he was an outlaw and everybody was out to get him for one reason or the other and on top of that it sounds kool!

i got mine becuase i had the name DJ Camo when i was in highschool. then i went for a trip to the UK right after graduation. now when i got there i found out someone already had that DJ name in the UK, he actualy runs one of my favorite drum and bass websites dogsonacid.com.

So i went and just played a set with the crew i was running with. during one of the break downs the lighting guy pulled the lights down to almost completly black in a room of like 1500 DnB fans going crazy during my solo set.

i grabbed an old crappy recorrd i never used anymore, poured some zippo lighter fluid on it, and lite it on fire, spun it on my finger like a basketball, blew out the flame and tossed it to the frenzying crowd before the lights can up!

So after the show, a girl came up to me and toldme it was her birthday and they came to the show to celebrate, and she was holding the melted record in her hand, and wanted me to sign it as like a memoior for the night. i grabbed a white paint marker from my backpack and blanked on what to sign it with. My freind ran over and was like "Hey girly, this is my man, The Firehooligan, he is straight up nuts init he?". So i signed it with that, and it stuck.

the whole name thing is weird, cos it can be important y'know? but it sort of isn't as well...

a name doesn't matter, if the music's wicked. and some bands you hear their name and think awesome! and then get to the show and they suck.

others, the names a bit wack but they just rock the jams so the name kinda fits or becomes ok somehow.


any more stories about this out there?

my artist name came from the first letter of my firts tag (when i was starting out painting graffiti)... D... then it moulded to Daffy, then i though Daffy was too wack so i changed my name to Dee Speedy (name that i used as my bboying name) and when i quitted breaking i took the "Dee" and added "Supreme"(just because i like the word) to it so now its been DeeSupreme for a whileand will be for now on...

like J Wales said names come from anywhere.....i had a name that i made up it was really really really lame when i think back on it.now i thought of a different name and i love it...its stuck on me.if you want a name...dont make ordinary make it really really different!peace

Got my name from Dj Kid Capri. He made a tape called 52 beats and I used to rhyme to every beat on the tape until the tape popped. I was getting a copy of that tape like almost twice a month so he started calling me E 52 beats. My name is Eric. But I go by a few names. When I used to rhyme my name was E Capers, actually that's my real name (lol) Eric Capers

spend some time researching esoteric scientific, psycological, or mythical topics on wikipedia and you will hit somthing real good.

After I finished cleaning house one day, I got in the lab to start makin' beats. i was looking at my hands on the keyboards saying, "damn my knuckles ashy as f*ck". Then the light bulb turned on.

Ashey Knuckles = clean &/or puttin in work. So there you go. My family call me Wook, but my stage name is Ashey Knuckles.

When i first started producing i went by the name SMC which is just my initials but i always wanted something more creative so i started thinkin. One day i met up with a bunch of guys i was startin to work with and they were gettin aliases of all of us written down and shit and i thought of the name flip wilson. I liked it cause it had several meanings.......everyone has always said how i flip anything, an argument, clothes, samples bla bal bal lol........so anyways i came up with flip wilson and i realized its a famous dude. So yea even though im white and the real flip wilson is black its cool, i just flipped it haha.

Oh yeah, my first instrumental album will be called on the flip side

a name aint tht important. if ur music is good, most alliases will be fine. look at some of these names out today....... eminem--i always thought that was gay. jadakiss, yung joc, jeezy, t.i., dj whoo kid... etc. wtf. once ppl strt bobbing there head to ur music, watever name u choose will be fine. watch a lot of old movies, read some obscure books. find something different if u must
