So what would you guys do?

B Real from Cypress Hill is putting out a new mixtape called The Harvest...it's a project he is doing with his production team called the Audio Hustlas....he put a bulletin out on MySpace for any independant/up and coming artists to submit their work for a possible colaboration that would be on his new mixtape. Well, I decided to submit a few of my songs to him and I got a reply back saying that they want me to be a part of the project........I won't paste the whole email, but here is what he/they offered:

We provide you with the following:

1. Your own track featuring B Real produced by B Real and the Audio Hustlaz
(After you record the song with B, its yours to do whatever with- you
own it.)
2. The extensive promotion that comes from being on The Harvest CD
3. If you can make it to LA, you can record with B at his studio!
4. We will set up a meeting with Latin Thug records for you and vouch
for you personally to get your own project released
5. The chance for a production deal with Audio Hustlaz

the only real "catch" is that they are asking for 4 G's....not something I have sitting around in my pocket.....my thing is, do they put this offer out to everyone that replies...and take whoever sends them the money or are they actually being selective? They sent me a contract and alll that jazz...but the bottom line for me is the 4 G deposit....would it/could it be worth the investment? Taking out a loan or whatever.....who knows...right now I am leaning at not doing it...but a part of me wonders if I shouldn't do what i can to make it happen...............what would you guys do.....I know we all have different situations to consider.....but imput would be appreciated.

as soon as I started to read this I immediately asked "how much money they chargin?"

Just sounds like ppl trying to make some money to me. If u feel it benefits u to the tune of 4 stacks worth (meaning, will u make that off the product) then go for it anyway.

just my 2 cents.

Oh, believe me, I thought the same thing as I was first reading the response....sure, if I had 4 G's laying around I would do it....there are some nice things that I could get out of it that I wouldn't be able to get so easily.....they obviously want "pay for play."

4 grand! man with that you could put out your own shit! ive never heard of any of them except B Real and ive never heard of payin, at least not 4k, to be on a mix tape that may never see any diverse exposure besides the local flea market or swap meet. but hey if you feel strongly about it do your thing. i have been seeing this same thing floating around on craigslist, not this particular project but similar.

This could be special. Maybe a networking/future collabo tool.

How "extensive" is the promotion? Shows...or just radio & billboard. And
how big will your name be? Fine Print?

Again, a networking tool. An exec, artist, etc... could be at the studio
and like what they hear.

"Not a guarantee" is what this should say. I mean look at the next line.


5. The chance for a production deal with Audio Hustlaz

"A chance for a deal". How you gonna get a deal and they have to vouch
for your project.


All in All, I think it's a very good NETWORKING opportunity. Four G's worth, I'm not sure. If you're serious about "making it" I'd seriously checkout what he's done lately and how much "weight" his name will carry

Phuck No! If you got 4 grand to burn then start your own label up! If your beats are dope, you can find washed up rappers all day that will spit on beats for free. Goto your local Sears store and check in the auto repair department. Look under a lift and you'll probably find Craig Mack and Das Efx in a pit with grease on their face. HAHA

That's not as much of a scam as it seems. To me, it's basically paying a rapper under your lable (theortically). But, like most of use, i assume you don't actually have a lable, distribution, etc, to make it worth you money. And this assumes the track would be something you would sell. Obviously it's packaged differently but that's the way i see it since you will own the track.

To me, i wouldn't do it unless i was very confident that i would get some sort of a deal, or it would offer enough promotion to make the money back. Or, if it was my favorite rapper, i would pay to have that oppertunity just for the novelty of it. As a business move, i don't think it will do much for you.

It would make more sense to make your OWN mixtape and handle your own business. People would respect that more and heavy hitters will find you!

true...it seems easy to go the route they are offering, but if it's too good to be true, well then, you know the rest...

I've found that no one will have your back in this industry, "friends" included.

In this case, they seem like they are making it very easy for themselves to say "Sorry homie, but we tried" and keep your 4k.

on some real sh!t I see craig mack every now and then round the way. Him, Eric Sermon, Parish smith and Keith murray all live in a reasonable distance from me. Craig mack be bummin in some beat up a$$ minivan for like the past 5 years. damn shame. But kinda funny..ha ha..
