Ez all,

Im currently putting together a collection of tracks for my first project.
My plan is to shot it out for free, im gonna get all lyrics/vocal performances copyrighted but will i be ok putting sampled beats out as long as the cd states "promotional use only" as i won't be making any profit.

any thoughts on this will be appreciated as this is such a grey area.

Cheers.

Word on the street is.... if you arent making money off of it, or trying to copyright the sample, then, its fine.... In actuality, I would contact a Entertainment Lawyer, just to answer that question. Or, another cheap way is it to contact a few publishing companies, you dont have to give them your info, you can just inquire to them about what you are trying to do. They only thing they can say is, Yes or No, and try to get money from you. If they say No, you need to pay us, then I would contact someone that actually has a legal responsibility to things like this(and Entertainment Lawyer).

You can ask the Net, but we will give you all kinds of answers, from, "I have done it, and you should be fine, when you do it" to actually checking with someone yourself.

I see People doing it all the time, but that doesnt make it right. If you are actually trying to do it the right way. If not, f..ck it, and just gone pop it off with your own idea.
