Nah,....you should be good. The 2500 is very reliable. I don't hear of many people having problems. Plus you have companies like VST Pro Audio Service Specialist that will probably be stocking parts and making repairs on Mpc's forever. Concerning buttons and pads I believe there are a few companies that sell those items so you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

i'm surprised to hear that. one of my concerns from going 2000xl to 2500 was build quality not being as good, and there have been quite a few threads about parts (main outs, jog wheel etc) needing to be replaced

Bottom Line:

It's an awesome machine in terms of functionality and features. The build is questionable in certain areas. The problems basically lye within a few parts (jog wheel and buttons, output problems are pretty limited). If you're looking at getting one, learn from us users that bought them in the first couple of production runs. You can't hammer on it like the old models & have nothing break. Try and get one new in a box. If you're taking a floor model, spend good time on it and know the sellers return policy. Take it easy on the jog wheel and the buttons and all should be okay.

Good luck with that. When major producers who can obviously afford a 5000 would rather use a 1000 or 2500 the prospects of that don't look good.

Simplicity and reliability is what Akai should be marketing. That's why Technics has been selling the 1200 for more than 30 years and Pioneer is still the go to CD-J. At one time they had that reputation . . .

You just nailed it right there.
And that's where Nukai goes the wrong route. To compete with software they try to add too many features. To force sells.
I never liked the 5000, there are too many things on it I just wouldn't use, that just don't match my workflow. I got intrested in the MPC series because of it's straight forward editing and programing. That reputation the mpc had has been thrown out of the window since Numark took over.

I can remember a vid somewhere on the net that Pete Rock says that the 4000 (5000 too? not for sure anymore) is too complex, that he just wants something simple and effective. I think a lot of people on this forum would agree with him.

i work in the IT Bussines and for me it looks like akai did receycled some of their stuff,
the features dont sound lime 2008, more like 2000 or so.
no hiher bitrates, max 128MB RAM etc is all obsolete.
Would wonder if they bring something uptodate the next motnhs, but i think they just waiting for lindrumm2 and the beatthang to
copy some of that stuff.

I agree. As much as the 5000 has to offer, it's almost too much.
