Solid state PATA hard drive

I know there is a sticky in the 1k section about building your own but a large CF card with good speeds is almost as expensive as this drive so was wondering if anybody has tried putting one of these in an MPC2500/1000.

Bit worried it might not be too reliable. I know the Jmicron has shown some serious issues with Windows based installation (due to lack of cache/buffer and small random read/writes) but think as it's storage that you will generally be reading or writing fair chunks at a time it might be OK.

let us know how it works.

i've been thinking on doing changing the hard drive for an ssd drive, but i dunno. prices are still up there, i guess i'll play the waiting game on this one until they get down to more accessible prices.

That is true but this drive works out at around the same price and larger than the CF cards that were being recommended for the home made SSD drive thread so thought somebody might of given it a go.

i guess i'll still be making regular weekly backups in the meantime tho

I JUST INSTALLED A TRANSCEND 64GB PATA SSD INTO MY MPC2500. BOUGHT IT ON NEWGG.COM FOR $185. JUMPER SETTINGS WERE COVERED BY THE MPC'S PATA CONVERTER SLOT SYSTEM AND DIDNT LET ME CONFIGURE TO SET IT UP AS A MASTER . I ENDED UP SOLDERING A JUMPER ON THE PCB OF THE XM10 CONVERTER. IT WORKS JUST FINE. I WAS ABLE TO FORMAT IT WITH MY COMPUTER VIA USB. I ALSO INSTALLED KINGSTON 256MB RAM WHICH SHOWS UP AS 128 WHEN TURNED ON.

Most hard drive's actually are set to master when no jumper is set. I don't know about transcend. But if some of you dont like to solder check for a manufacturer thats is default at master when no jumper is being used.
