Hardware installation issues..

I'm working on installing a cd drive and a hard drive on my mpc2500 but I can't get the mpc to recognize either 1. I've checked around the forum, called akai tech support and visited my local GC and I still can't find a solution.

I've tried initializing the machine..(on the advice of tech support)
Formatted the hard drive with Mac OS X to FAT32
Tried to format the hard drive on the mpc but continues to pop up "Install Memory Card"
Set the hard drive to Master and to Slave with no change
Installed cd drive but it's not showing up in any of the menus..(cd drive spins when turned on)

CD Drive:
HP UJ-840 DVD+RW Drive

HD:
Hitachi Travelstar 80GN (60GB)

Any insight on this issue is greatly appreciated.

Remove the CD drive completely and put the HDD disk in. Boot up the unit, it should see the HDD. I am having this issue too, I currently cannot get my disc and HDD to both be recognized. I think it has something to do with master/slave but idk.

the manual says to remove all jumper from the hard drive.
remember that it is adviced to format the hdd from the mpc and not from the computer.

the cd drive may or may not work, some people got their non akai drive to work by moding a pin.
thus this applied only to some drives of some makes.

Thanx a million! I was finally able to get the mpc to recognize the HDD and it's working beautifully! Preciate the info. 1 down, 1 to go!

I got it! This forum just made me 1 of the happiest producers on the planet. It was just as simple as bending pin47 (2nd pin from the left on the top) and the mpc recognizes the cd drive and plays cds perfectly! Didn't have to break or solder anything. Just bent the pin all the way down till it was flat. Plugged in it to the mpc and now it cookin with Crisco!
