I've learned more and more about my MP 25k as well as using it live over the past few years. Only now 5 years later have I started to make a return investment on this machine (as in getting music work).
I also use ableton and an SP 404 as well and they all each give me a different feel/workflow and i've become accustomed to all three. The only way your getting value on your 25k is if you have it loaded up with the JJ OS (as well as maxed out memory, HD and a burner in there)
The JJ OS is the one reason that I haven't sold my mpc, I can literally chop so fast with it. The only thing that has come close imo is the maschine.

to the OP... Enjoy my Novel below, & know that while I did take the time out of my day to answer you, I also type VERY fast
NEVER!!! Out of all of my gear, my 2500 is the LAST thing I would sell. Especially since they are discontinued.
When I moved back to an MPC and copped my 2500 in 2009 they were still sold new in stores, and USED were going for around 500-800 or so on ebay. I got mine off CL for 700 flat WITH the original receipt, and it was only 5 months old in mint condition except for a line out on the screen (which I planned on replacing with a white one anyway).
BUt ANYWY Now your hard pressed to find one in sh!tty condition for that price. avg from what Ive been seeing they go for like 800-850 and on UP UP UP. especially if someone is selling theirs fully loaded, with JJ and custom work..
C'mon son.
Speaking of which... With JJOSXL in a 2500 or even 1000 for that matter... Thats a POWERFUL piece of gear. I hate being stuck inside the box, having to click n cut on samples. TO me its just feels better to work on a piece of hands on gear.
Obviously with ableton being your mainstay, you feel its working better for you and thats cool.
Im not sure what your work flow is, but for me I use Reason and vsti's in cubase, all as sound sources and pretty much rock with the MPC as my main sequencer. With JJ its SO easy to record audio directly to the mpc.
Once my scratch idea, or entire jam is ready to move into the DAW, I just import the audio files I recorded str8 in from the 2500 to cubase, and or track the stuff thats played out in the mpc, to Cubase, and its stupid easy to sync up, then track.
I think overall, for me, the MPC just feels better to work on. More intuitive, more gritty, more HIPHOP. But ya know, thats purely objective, despite many people agreeing.. or disagreeing for that matter. lol
For me working with the strengths of BOTH analog and digital audio is the way to go. I even track my mpc thru My Mackie Mixing console before running thru My Focusrite Pro24, just to get the warmth from the Mackie. It really makes a world of difference in the end result.. to MY ears anyway. I could never see myself relying solely on just digital or analog.
And where the MPC is concerned... its just way more like an instrument. There's just something about clicking around a PC to do everything that feels far too robotic to me(and I get enough of that during the mixing process lol).
I even have a MPK49.. and the pads on that(even after installing mpcstuff Thick Pads) are just wack compared to the 2500. And I am NOT a fan of playing drums on Keys.
SO between all that...
My preference to Sample on the mpc rather than a computer....
The Power of JJOSXL and the flexibility and increased work flow it offers....
(like my fav feature: the fairly new NON destructive chop mode which allows extremely precise sample chopping with each chop automatically assigned to its OWN pad in trim mode where you can adjust the start & end of each region and audition each chop PER PAD before converting it to a Prgm, rather than the standard Auto chop which is like a blind fool wit a machete, and every chop covers ALL 16 pads, so that you have to shuffle thru each region individually.. UGH!!!)
Then add the play-ability of an instrument with the great feel of the pads and being able to rock the play button in real time with no latency what so ever and be able to do stop/starts before bringing your beat in WITHOUT having to make multiple cutsNchopsNcopies(oh my!) to paste in your sequence just to achieve the same effect (Clicking VS Playing? SMH)
Not to mention the ability to record multiple tracks of audio in a loop directly to ANY track(not just 61-64 thanx to JJOS)
And the fact that my joint is totally blacked out from the buttons to da bezels wit a white screen...
C'MON SON!!!
MPC2daDEATHofME!
anyway, thats my 2 cents.
