I'm willing to bet that in some cases, the solder joints are cold. Wave-soldering machines aren't always perfect. This reminds me of the problem that existed on the MPC1000 pad upgrade PCB. On many boards, there were diodes that needed re-flowing with a solder iron. If anyone here is having output problems on their MPC2500s and didn't physically damage the output in any way to cause the problem, then it may just be the manufacturing defect that I've mentioned. So if you're still under warranty, leave it alone and call VST Service or Akai to be on the safe side. If you're out of warranty and have enough skills, take a look at your output section of the PCB with a magnifying glass to determine if a cold soldering joint is the culprit and re-flow the diode or any other component that's open. But be aware of overheating certain components and perform the repair at your own risk.
DEAD ON MATE!!!! - I don't know if this is it or not but it seems likely since my MPC didn't go through any memorable trauma to suddenly have such a single isolated fault develop. THANKS SO MUCH for the thoughtful reply - I will certainly check this!
