CF problem with my machine. Screen goes blank

Hi, I am having some terrible problems with my MPC.

I purchased it from a secondhand shop and they assured me everything was ok.

I don't want to send it back and i,m hoping it's just me.

I purchased a 2GB CF card from Ebay. Here is the link to it :

When I install it and turn my machine on. The MPC screen goes blank.

I don't get the 128MB loading message. Just a blank green screen.

I have to take the card out and restart the machine without it in order for it to work.

If I put the card back in while the machine is on. The screen just goes blank again.

Could it be the card?

Akai say you need a type I or II card. I,m not sure what type the card is that I purchased.

What's the best way for me test this out. I'm really with my new purchase.

That seems weird, but yes ; you should first try with another CF.
Sandisk or Transcend in 2Go are perfect.

I can't work it out.

When I press mode and go to load, it says (load from memory card)

So the memory card unit must be detected.

If I try to load when the memory card is not in, it says no memory card is present.

When I put the memory card in the screen just goes blank. And then I have to take the card out and restart the machine.

I,m going to order a Sandisk or Transcend card to test it.

I've also seen a couple of Akai 2500 memory card PCBs going on Ebay. But it if was the Memory Card PCB surely it wouldnt be able to see it in load mode. Unless there is something wrong with the pins where you put the memory card in. They look ok.

Hi I purchased a 2GB Transcend card and made sure that it was formatted as FAT.

I,m still getting the same problem.

As soon as I put the card in the screen goes blank and I have to restart the machine.

It's puzzling me because in the Load mode it is saying "inset card".

But as soon as you insert the card that's it.

I could be something to do with the pins on the internal reader.

The only way I can test this is by buying a new CF PCB.

So my options are

Send the unit back and ask for my money back.
Buy a new CF PCB

What should I do?

sound like bent pin, look inside the cf card slot on your mpc

The pins look ok from what I can see. They are all pretty straight.

But I,ve not had a really close look.

I,ve got a head magnifier with a strong 4x lens.

I will check the pins out with that.

But the pins all slot into the CF card.

Could it be a bad pin going to the CF PCB? Bent pin that has lost contact etc.

You don't have any dude with the same machine ?

The best way to figure this out is a crossed diagnosis

I checked the pins in the reader with a 3.5x magnifier. Some of the ones in the middle were bent up.

I tried to put them straight but I,m still getting the same problem.

One of the pins feels lose and could come off with any pressure.

Plus I don't have much faith if I could get it to work. Because the slightest movement could know it out again.

I need a CF board.

I had mpc with bent pin touchin another pin causing the same problem... since you looking at replacing cf card pcb...I would take it apart and at least try to get them straight so they not touching each other and line up with memeory card holes...I couldnt get mine to straighten out but got it to at least align with the holes and everything worked dandy afterwards...




^ that silver plate cover over cf card slot comes off givin better access to the pins, try it before you buy it

I,m going to take it back to the shop. I don't want to void the warranty in any way.

I suspect there is more wrong than right with this machine.

It's a shame you can no longer buy new ones. I've got the money and I don't want to be messing around with second hand items.
