MPC 2500 and Pro tools 8 LE, sequence issues

Hey Guys,

I have the MBox 3 and Pro tools 8 LE

The stereo outs for the MPC 2500 are connected to the mic/line inputs of the MBox 3, and the monitor outputs on the MBox are connected to studio monitors.

When I follow the instructions for syncing protools 8 LE with the 2500 (the MIDI out A of the MPC connected to the MIDI in of the MBox, and with the 2500 as the master), and press play on my MPC, not only does no sound come out but pro tools does not even record anything from my MPC. It acknowledges that an MPC is connected, but does not record anything at all

even if i load up one audio (stereo) track for pro tools, it still wont record anything from my MPC

It would be greatly appreciated if one of you guys has a solution towards this problem, ive been trying to figure out the solution for this for a while

Did you set the proper inputs on your audio track in Pro Tools? Should be set to 1&2 . You should also have the switch on the front set to "Rear". Phantom power should be turned OFF!

Well I never put the phantom power on, but i now see the two "rear" buttons and the gain knobs. So what your saying is i should press the two "rear" buttons and set my audio track to "1&2" on protools (keeping in mind that its a stereo audio track)

and if i have multiple tracks on what i made, do i need to add more audio tracks on protools?

i'm sorry if im asking stupid questions, i just bought the mbox and just started yesterday to connect my mpc to protools

Yeah, you need a separate track/sound for each track in your MPC. If the sound is mono, make a mono audio track, if the sound is stereo, make a stereo track. You can check your sounds in the trim screen to see if they are stereo or not. They will have ST next to the name if they are. But yeah, since the Mbox you have only has two analog inputs, you just set the audio track input to 1&2 or 1 or 2. You can also use S/pdif to record up to 4 channels simultaneously.

Channel 1 is always left and channel two is always right. So say both your kick and snare are both mono, you can record them both to two separate tracks at the same time. Just go in the mixer of the MPC and pan the snare hard left and the kick hard right. Set one audio track to input 1 and the other to input 2 and record.

There is something thats preventing me from recording....on the bottom left hand of the screen of PT it says "waiting sync point"...any idea what that is?

You might have yours set up so that Pro Tools is the slave or maybe the wrong frame rate setting. Go over your settings by following this MTC setup for the 2500:

"For triggering the MPC2500 using MTC (MIDI Time Code) with Pro Tools as the master device:
1) Use a MIDI cable to connect the MIDI OUT of your Digidesign hardware (or M-Audio if using M-Powered) to the MIDI In of your MPC2500.

In the MPC2500:
Go to the "MIDI/Sync" menu.
3) Set "Sync In" to the corresponding MIDI input port on the MPC.
4) Set "Mode" to "MIDI Time Code".
NOTE: When using MTC with the MPC2500, it will automatically match the frame rate of the incoming MTC.

In Pro Tools:
5) Go to the Setup menu and choose “Peripherals…”. Click on the Synchronization tab and set “MTC Generator Port" to the corresponding MIDI output port.
6) Go to the Setup menu and choose “Session". Set "Time Code Rate" to 30.
7) If your Transport window is not already open, open it by going to the Window menu and choosing “Transport”.
8) Go to the View menu and highlight Transport. Choose Synchronization and click on the GEN MTC that appears on the Transport window.
9) Press play in Pro Tools and the MPC should now be playing along with Pro Tools.
NOTE: (When using MTC, it is recommended to add 1 or 2 bars of pre-roll.) "

i have pro tools 7 le and in the past have had no trouble tracking out of my mpc 2500 into pro tools but now the mpc is not slaving to pro tools. i have followed all the instructions but i hope someone can answer two questions:

1. can you have a midi cable plugged into the in of a mbox while synching out as the master?

2. in the peripherals section my mbox does not come up as an option for the mtc generator port only the mpc, the hardware interface of reason along with various reason modules? i noticed before that the mbox was an option in this section but can't get it back. is it necessary? Thanks.
