hard disk format tells me to "insert memory Card!" ??

i have just installed a new hdm-10 and 80gb drive into my 2500.. running osXL.

however it seems as though the hard disk is dead on arrival..

when i turn on the MPC i get a really slow startup.. just hangs for ages on the osXL splash screen - im guessing where it would normally read the hard disk but i cant hear any drive spinning.

then when i go to save > select hard disk and choose format, when i press F2 (format) it hangs for ages and then tells me to "Insert Memory Card"

anyone else ever have this problem - was it the HD?

i ask as im slightly concerned it may be something actually wrong with my MPC as the seller did not include the HDM tray inside the 2500 so they may be hiding something.

I have tried using both jj free OS and Akai OS - neither of those will even allow me to select hard drive as an option

unfortunately i dont have another ide drive to test..

Havent come across this problem...I'd try formatting to FAT with computer if you can, do you have cd-rom installed ? If you do pull it out and try formatting without cd-rom. Maybe they didnt know how to do the pin mod.

-tried pulling cd/dvd drive out. didnt seem to make a difference.

-i cant check/format the drive in a PC until i find some sort of IDE enclosure to connect it with, but ill give that a go once i find a way to hook it up

im thinking either its dead or the hard disk is not receiving power. as what i can remember from having my 1000 with a hard drive is that when youstartup the machine you hear it spin the hard drive a bit while its starting up. Im getting complete silence at the moment.

i went back and checked up on the ebay seller.. piece of s**t has tonnes of bad reviews about selling shonky products. normally im good with checking up but let it slip on this one.

thatll teach me for rushing through a purchase and not understanding that if an item is listed as new-never used its different to brand new, and as such have no case for refund.

$40 down the toilet.
