Hello new guy 2500 questions.

I'm new here and thought I would say hi and ask a few questions. I have been doing production for a while I started with a 2000 and moved to a 2500. shortly after The switch i took a 5 year break and recently started back up. Having never initially learnd the machine I'm am not as familiar with all of its features over the 2000's.

I was wondering how to set effects to a sample or pad.

I also want to know if I can load vst plug ins into the 2500?

And my last question is if I have old floppys saved to my computer with beats from the 2000 and I transfer them through USB into the 2500 will they load up and can I work on them?

5 years? Whoa I forget how stuff in my setup works after 5 days away from it sometimes.

FX - Mode+Pad 12. 2 selectable send effects. Control the send levels on the mixer screen. Activate a Q-link "after" button to assign those 4 controls to track effects.

Plugins - Loading in the MPC, no. Loading the plugin in a PC/OS X host program and controlling the VST's from MIDI channels on the MPC, yes. You will need a MIDI interface or a audio interface with a MIDI interface built in to set this up.

USB - Floppy images or the data already in folders copied to your computer?

The port on the 2500 is strictly for mounting the CF card or internal HD if you have one as a mountable disc on a computer. The 2500 can load MPC Programs made on a 2000 if you have some of those.

Aside from the horrid jogwheel it's a great machine. You should look into the JJOS that is available. There is a free version and the paid ones can be test driven with save disabled. If you are just learning the machine maybe you would want to just start with JJOS Free. It's superior to the Akai OS.

Even if you stick with the Akai OS for a while the JJOS's are not so radically different that it's a tough switch. For most people it's a case of noticing how stock features are improved and a lot of things you probably wished for on the Akai OS have been addressed.

Thank you very much I really appreciate the help. 5 years is a long time i never thought i would be as rusty as i am from it.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about the old files and floppy drive. What I can do is save copys of my old floppys from the 2000 on my computer. What I was asking is if I mount the 2500s hard drive to that same computer that has the 2000 floppy saves on it and drag them into the 2500 drive ( once mounted)would it load up the folder? You answered my question anyway just thought I would clarify.

It's not that I don't know how to use machine necessarily it's more that I don't know the extra stuff it does. I can make a beat on it but only to the extent that I did on the 2000 I don't use any of the extra features.

I must have a newer os on my 2500 because most of the things the jjos has are already in my unit. At least from my comparrison but im probably wrong. If I do make that move does it clear my memory in my 2500? Also how hard is it to reverse back to akai os if needed? Last thing that troubled me with the os was I read that when you load a sample it dosent ask to assign it to a pad wich is a feature I want I like assigning pads as I sample it's just my workflow.

The Akai OS on the chart is the final one they released. You might want to give JJOS Free a spin if only for Global Program Edit. On the Akai OS you have to change settings on each pad separately, it's extremely tedious. With GPE on JJ you can just select all the pads at once and apply changes globally.

When you switch OS's your saves on CF card or internal HD stay intact as does the autoload folder. (Although many people use a workaround to empty the autoload folder and get a few MB's for sample memory).

You can switch back to Akai OS anytime by simply loading it and restarting the machine. The first post in this thread succinctly breaks it all down. - viewtopic.php?t=79195
