Sup people, long time reader first time poster.

Gonna be finally moving in to the mpc world, and have decided on the 2500.
I'll be mainly using this as a sequencer to trigger my hardware samplers & synths.

One thing i'm unsure on though is would i be able to hook up my mac (via an amt8) and edit my rackmount synths while going through the mpc or would i have to unplug the synths from the MPC and hook them up to the AMT8 to edit them again?

Have searched around and couldn't find an answer for this.

Cheers

The fact that you have a multiport midi interface makes me wonder why you would want to run it through the MPC at all -- I could understand running the control messaages into the MPC if you wanted to record them to the MPC sequencer, but there's still no reason to use the MPC soft thru with the equipment you have. Just connect all of it to the emagic, setup the midi routing the way you want it and forget abput it.

Now if you only had access to some cheapy 1x1 or 2x2 interface that would be a different story. Then you would be forced to daisy chain from the interface to the MPC to the synth with the MPC soft thru enabled. Would it work? Maybe, maybe not. If the synth only uses standard midi messages for editing then your chances are pretty good. If it uses sysex then it becomes a lot more iffy because cheapy softthrus don't always like certain manufacurer's sysex implementation and users here have reported as much in the form truncation and other mangling of the data at the MPC output. Some sysex will even corrupt the functions of the sequencer and require a restart to get the thing working normally again.

To be honest up until now the thought of using the amt8 in a midi patchbay configuration hadn't even crossed my mind (it's not been a feature that i've used before, as it's sole purpose for me has been as an interface up until now).

As most if not all the synths that i have do require sysex information to be sent across then it seems like the best option, i just didn't have any idea whether the soft thru implementation on the MPC would allow it.

Thanks for the reply
