New MPC 2500 user needs basic help getting started!

Hello!

I just recently purchased an MPC 2500 again, and im already excited as hell playing with this unit for couple of days.

Ive listed some basic questions below and hopefully you can help me get started.:

1. OS: Currently Im using JJ OS 3.10 as this OS was already installed in this unit when I bought it (I bought it used). I was planning on purchasing the pay-version of JJ as quickly as possible, but Im really confused about the versions? Which version should I go with? I believe there are OS:s 1, 2, 3, XL and this free one. Are they all different prices and what should I go with? Extremely confusing choice at this point.

2. Sampling setup: My sampling setup is currently like this: My computer´s sound card stereo out goes to my MPC:s record in. This is because I like to sample stuff from youtube etc. In real time. Is this normal way to use the Record In:s? Im a little folio head, so just some confirmation from other users that this setup is OK and won´t break anything is a big relief for me.

3. Headphone volume: I believe this is not possible, but I would like to adjust my speaker volume different from the headphone volume (both my speakers and headphones are connected straight from the MPC. Is there a possibility to do this, or are both of the volumes tied to the Main Volume button?

1) Choose your JJOS version based on the functions/features that you need. Here's the chart:

OS1 and 2 are no longer supported but are still available for free to JJOS-XL users. OS3 is free but only available to JJOS-XL users.

2) All inputs and outputs on the 2500 are balanced line level. Your sound card is also line level so there is no problem. Anything that is line level is ok to plug directly into your MPC.

Note: A turntable with no built-in preamp is phono level so if you were to plug one to your MPC, then you would need some kind of preamp (a DJ mixer for exemple) to bring the signal up to a line level. Plugging a phono signal into a line level wouldn't break your MPC (the signal would simply be too weak). At the opposite, plugging a line level signal into a phono input would make a loud buzzing noise. You don't want that.

3) The main volume knob on the MPC is for the master output signal so it controls both L/R outputs and headphone jack at the same time. Use your interface volume knob for the speakers maybe...

I purchased the OS XL and I can use the OS3 with the same password so its all good. (I dont know if theres even OS 1 or 2 for the 2500, not atleast in the JJ OS site.)
