Updating to the akai os v1.24

I just bought my MPC 2500 used and it came loaded with 128mb of ram and a 80GB HD.
It has the Akai v1.23 OS and I want to update it. According to akai-pro.com the update has to be saved on the CF card. I just ordered one from newegg.com.

But does anyone know if there is a way to update without saving it to a CF card? I already tried saving it to the mpc's HD thru usb but it didn't recognize it when I tried to launch the OS bootloader. I didn't want to have to wait for the CF card if I didn't have to.

Still learning and want to learn the akai os before I start messsing around with JJ OS.

U have to install the OS from ur CF card. Once it's installed u don't have to use the card/os file everytime u turn on the mpc.

Do yourself a favor and stick with OS 1.23 "TRUST ME"

There's nothing really wrong with the akai os.
Only problem is that they don't get the most out of the software capabilities.
They give u only 50% of the features they can actually offer.

Menco, Do you use JJ-Os or Akai Os.

I have JJOS 3.09 (free version) and use JJOS 1 on the 1k

As I had stated in another post, No OS will ever be perfect but would you say that even with all of the bugs JJ is still better than the AKAI OS. Awhile back I seen a long list of bugs for JJ (Might have even been on the JJ site itself) But have the majority of them been fixed yet.

JJos is more stable. The workflow feels more natural. The free version is already quite an upgrade IMO. Ur chopped slices are in stereo, u can switch ur stereo samples in mono samples with an option to pick left or right.
Global program, so u can assign a LP filter to a complete program instead of setting each pad individually.
But it won't turn bedroom beatmakers into major producers. The akai OS can get the job done.
Eventhough JJOS might have some serious bugs, I'd still prefer JJ over Akai. Like I said, JJ serves u anything an mpc1000/ 2500 can offer. And he serves it in a well thought through way
