Drum Patterns and how to use swing effectively

I just got my mpc a while ago and switched from using fl studio 9 but the one thing i noticed apart from its amazing sampling capabilities is the fact i cant get the same type of pop into my drum patterns.

i'm experimenting and using the swing at different levels but i cant even at least get that solid boom bap sound im so used to making no matter what i try to do.

my drum patterns just sound very flat, it'd be very appreciated if i could get some help and insight on this issue. thanks.

my mpc only goes up to 1/32, how do you get up to 1/96?

Not a fan of the swing setting as I prefer to just play my drums 'live' and impart my own swing and groove, just like a real drummer.

So as Lamp says, set TC to OFF and just play(+RECORD) - this is going to record everything pretty much exactly as you play it. Eventually you'll get something worth keeping, or you can go back in and make edits using STEP EDIT if it needs tightening up etc.

Then use SEQ EDIT to copy and paste around all the best bits (into a different sequences).

That's one way at least. Other people will approach it differently

I like to use the swing assigned to Q2 and mess around with the swing as I record in order to get varying amounts of "humanize" to my drum parts. Using diff swing amounts for each part if necessary. YMMV as usual.. But of course, there's no substitute for having your pads configured nicely and your finger drumming skills on point to get the best grooves! You can always try slowing down the tempo for recording and then speeding it back once you have recorded your pattern as well..
