HI,

I think my mpc is broken. When I turn it on there is a clicking sound (which seems to be coming from the dvdrom drive). And when it clicks the the screen flickers. When I load up samples and trigger them I just get a load fuzzy noise where the sample should be.

Thanks

normaly the dvd-rom drive tries to see if there is actually a disc in it when you start the machine and what you hear ist the movement of the laser unit, but there should be a little more sound than just a little click.

you can try to start up your mpc while pressing and holding the erase button until the main screen shows up. this will set your mpc back to the factory settings.

you could also remove the dvd-rom drive and the memory expansion (if there is one in your mpc, but i think if you got the dvd you also bought the memory expansion, because it is way more important in everyday use. or you have one of the limited editions with all extras factory fitted) and see if this makes a difference, just to verify that those components are not the cause of your problem.

if that does not help you could open the mpc and look if all connectors and ribbon cables are seated properly (sometimes they get loose during transport).

if that all does not cure the problem you might have one or more failing boards inside the mpc (maybe due to overheating) and you have to see if mpcstuff or forat can provide replacement parts.

also read the treads in this forum about failing outputs of the mpc, because this seems also be a problem that comes up more often than others.

peace, jo
