Sudden reboot

Yesterday, during a live performance at a festival, my MPC2500 suddenly rebooted. This happened several times.

I have never had any problems with my MPC before.
Perhaps the power supply level (the area was running on a hughe aggregate) was the problem. Other equipment in the booth kept working though, but perhaps that stuff is less sensitive for unstable power.

But maybe something else caused the problems.
Has anyone experienced this before?

I am running JJOS XL latest version.

Check if your RAM is seated properly. It may have become loose.

Also check for loose cables (inside the machine of course)...

But could a poor power source be a cause as well? The MPC was hooked up to a generator with the size of a van, together with the rest of the PA system. Perhaps the voltage or the frequency wasn't ok.

If your MPC hasn't experienced this before and hasn't since, then I would assume it's related to the power supply at the venue, perhaps the other equipment is less sensitive to very brief dips in the supply.

Otherwise as already stated, this is most likely a lose or shorting connection inside.

I haven't tested it since, but I planned to do that later this week. It's just that I need to be 100% sure what the cause was. There is another gig coming up and I don't want my MPC to fail once more.

Think I'll open my MPC then, just to make sure all the connectors are fitted properly. Any connectors in particular I should look out for?

Could be anything I guess, I've triggered a reboot before as the pad sensor sheet connector wasn't pushed in enough, so was connecting intermittently . But you'd have to assume it was more likely related to the generator IMO.

It happens with JJOS sometimes. Not often, but sometimes.
It's happened to me a dozen times over the last few years, using various JJOS/JJOSXL versions.
I.e. it's pretty much random.

After an OS upgrade always hold down the ERASE button and reboot, to reset your machine properly.

JJOS jumping screens are also a major PITA.

Sick of the bugs and Nukai components, I now use an MPC 3000 instead.

I'm running the latest XL version.
It never happened to me before, but last weekend it happened 6 times in half an hour.
It did happen at moments I was drumming on the pads though, so what you say about the CPU could be true.

I never did a reset with ERASE. I'll try that too.

What exactly do you mean with the JJOS Jumping screens?

The ERASE thing is essential after upgrading the OS.

The JJOS website says
"
When you change OS, please switch on a power supply, pressing the ERASE button first.
Please press the ERASE button until a main screen is displayed.
If this operation is not performed, MPC may freeze or it may crash.
"

So, hopefully that'll fix it for you.

Jumping screens
Things like:
I'll be editing in the TRIM screen, then suddenly the screen will jump to the main page, or the Other page or wherever.
or
I'll hit the F4 button and instead of doing the appropriate action, the screen jumps to another part of the OS.

I'm not the only one that this happens to.
You're lucky to have not had it happen.

tbh I don't know why the OS resets itself. I just know that it sometimes does... even after doing the ERASE thing.
Whether that is directly related to whatever OS update has occurred that month I don't know. Maybe.
