How do producers do it?

hey all, first off i have searched the online forums for about two hours without finding an answer before i decided to post a new topic, sorry if it sounds stupid, i am new to my 2500...

here's the question, do most people shut down the mpc every day, and then when they power it back on, manually reload all their samples/programs and everything through the load menu?

i downloaded some samples and transferred them onto the installed hard disk of the 2500 via USB. i put them all in a folder called AUTOLOAD at the root of the disk. turned the autoload settings on, to autoload from hard disk. but when i turn the machine on, no programs are loaded in the "MAIN" screen, so i have no sounds to start creating with.

so then if i load them manually, they will show up in the MAIN screen. BUT... i can't just load the "autoload" folder manually and have them all show up, because when i try to do that, nothing happens, nothing gets loaded at all. i have to load each, uh, program folder (?) one by one, then they will show up.

that seems horribly tedious to me so i was just wondering how most people do it??? am i missing something or is there some kind of a bug on my machine?

i am running the free version of JJ OS, just installed. but i had the exact same issue on the original Akai OS before.

i would really appreciate some help or guidance coz i feel kinda stuck before i get going here..

ok thanks man. book looks great, it would be very painful for me to shell out another $40 for an ebook right now so i guess i will keep trying to figure it out and maybe someone can offer an answer, otherwise i may end up buying it eventually but cant at the moment

The other stuff you mentioned is mostly down to getting to know the machine and building up the muscle memory. The things that feel like a chore end up becoming second nature and part of the ebb and flow of the experience.

The 2500 is a proper standout machine in the MPC lineup, so don't lose heart because you're hitting a few roadblocks.

in other words you mean most people DO load every program manually when they turn the machine on, folder by folder? meaning if i have 10 drum kits i like to choose from i have to load all ten of them one by one every time i power on? granted i guess it's not really a big problem i just figured there must be an easier way that most people use...

Most people sample fresh drums into the machine for each project, but in general we all have HUNDREDS of drum kits already mapped out.

The skill is memorising what kits will fit with the samples in question. Loading endless kits isn't the answer to your problems.

I chop on my computer in Recycle. Simply because I tend to do 50-150 chops in one go, and I'm just faster that way.

But generally speaking if you already have singles/chops all over the place an app like MPC Maid is a huge time saver. It can even be directed at a folder of up to 64 singles and just map them to a PGM in the order the folder has them in about 1-3 seconds.

You can even do basic chopping right in this free utility app. Many prefer to do all the chopping on the MPC, or only make PGMs during the song creation process. But this app presents a great alternative to make a gang of PGMs to have at the ready.

It's an executable .jar file so you're going to need Java Runtime Environment installed and enabled to run MPC Maid. Unless you ever purposely disabled it, Windows and OS X will by default have JRE running.
